No one says losing weight is easy, but Matt Hoover is here to tell you that if he can do it, you can, too. Matt began gaining weight in college, depressed after failing to achieve the high standards he had set for his wrestling career. By the time he reached 340 pounds he had given up on college, wrestling, and his first marriage. When he was cast on NBCs The Biggest Loser, he had no idea how much his life (or his waist size) was about to change. With the help of exercise physiologist Sheri R. Colberg, Ph.D., Matt separates weight-loss facts from fiction, describes his workout routine, and offers advice on choosing healthy yet satisfying foods. Matt has experienced first-hand the emotional challenges of being overweight and knows how life changes when the pounds begin to fall off. He speaks candidly on sex, divorce, and a new life with his wife, Suzy, whom he met on The Biggest Loser. Honest and full of sage, no-nonsense advice, this book is sure to inspire and guide anyone who wants to lose a few pounds or completely transform his or her body and life.

Acknowledgments

First and foremost, we owe our thanks to our families for standing by us (or, more accurately, getting by without us) while we worked on this book. Matt is forever grateful for the loving support he received from his wife, Suzy, while Dr. Sheri again thanks her husband, Ray Ochs, and her three sons for being so understanding of the time that goes into creating a book that is worthy of being published.

Next, we appreciate the support of all the crew at Skyhorse Publishing, including our editor, Abigail Gehring, and many other hard-working individuals behind the scenes at this publishing house. Finally, we also owe many thanks to our literary agent, Linda Konner, for her belief in this book and our ability to get it written in time. She is a true champion in the cause for weight control and healthy living.

About the Authors

Matt Hoover was the grand prize winner of NBCs The Biggest Loser 2 . A legend back in his hometown of Belle Plaine, Iowa, he was a member of four NCAA wrestling championship teams at the University of Iowa. In high school, Matt was a two-time Iowa state wrestling champion and was thrice named a high school all-American athlete. Awarded a scholarship to the top college wrestling program in the nation at the University of Iowa, he was later torn from his Olympic dreams by an injury, leaving his competitive dreams unfilled. After his wrestling career ended, he developed severe eating and drinking problems that caused his weight to balloon up to 340 pounds in just a few years. Near the height of his weight gain and the nadir of his life, he was cast to be on the NBC show The Biggest Loser 2 early in 2005. He arrived at the Biggest Loser Ranch in March of 2005 weighing 339 pounds, but ended up winning the shows grand prize by losing 157 pounds in just nine months. He weighed in at only 182 pounds at the final weigh-inthus accomplishing a remarkable 46.31 percent overall weight loss (close to half his body weight).

Matt Hoover currently resides with his wife, Suzy Preston Hoover, near Seattle, Washington. He works as a motivational speaker, traveling around the country, and he also coaches individuals on exercise training regimens and works with many others to help them achieve their weight loss goals. He and his wife welcomed their first child, Rex, in the summer of 2007.
