Chapter 6: Why Its Important to Be At Your Strongest
Making a S amurai S word

Every day you are faced with challenges and hurdles that you can either go over or have them stop you in our tracks. [Keeping the track and field theme going] In those moments you question your own mental , emotional, and physical strength. Just how strong are you ?

Have you ever seen metal forged into a samurai sword ; a katana for instance (pictured below) ? If youre not familiar with the craftsmanship that goes into it, Ill you about it quickly. Legend has it [Just kiddin ] but i t s been said in the Japanese culture that a samurais sword was his soul. Many claim that an authentic katana is folded over 1,000,000 times to create steel of the highest quality. Now bear that in mind as you read the rest of this section .

The E ntrepreneurial P ursuit

After watching the journey of people around me (family, friends and colleagues) and personalities in the media that you see, hear or read about almost daily, like Jack Ma, Bill Gates, and Shawn Carter (aka Jay Z) , an important revelation has come my way. As an entrepreneur, in order to get where you need to be , you have to be put through a series of tests or be folded over a million times like the katana. In my opinion, its the only way to determine if you are ready to receive the blessings that life has in store for you; your destiny; that which is rightfully yours.

You are not as strong as you think you are. Let me put that another way; you are not as strong as you need to be just yet. By this I mean to be the best version of yourself , you have to be the strongest and most courageous that youve ever been in your entire life.

When you discover your inner-strength and greatness, all that youve wished to accomplish will suddenly start to fall into place. Dont get overwhelmed and dont fear your own success. Hold on to your dreams and aspirations with all your strength. Youre very close to being the best you that you were meant to be. As American Spiritual Teacher, Marianne Williamson famously said, Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

Chapter 1: Scratch Fake It and Instead Chase It Until You Make It As Entrepreneurs

Real E ntrepreneurs You dont need to be constantly broke to be distinguished - photo 2

Real E ntrepreneurs

You dont need to be constantly broke to be distinguished as an entrepreneur. Most people begin their path to entrepreneurship with just an idea that they eventually turn into a business.

Mark Zuckerberg was an inventor and developer when he created Facebook. It was not until Sean Parkers entry as president that Facebook became a business and Mark could then be considered an entrepreneur.

Some begin with lots of capital in their bank accounts and just a desire and passion to pursue a dream. Entrepreneurship isnt some badge thats given to a select or chosen few. Anyone can be an entrepreneur.

Just remember, its not where you start that matters, its the execution of your idea to fruition that counts.

Chapter 10: Theres Nothing Wrong With Being Too Ambitious

Its important to have goals in life, because it gives you something to work towards. The older I get the more I realise in having those goals and defining them, its imperative to constantly re-evaluate them so as to avoid complacency.

Make them as BIG as you can and throw all your energies into making them a reality. Theres nothing wrong with being ambitious.

Get O ut of the B locks

So now that you have a great name and youre ready to overcome your fears, its time to look at that product or service!

Like the Worlds Fastest Man, Usain Bolt, having a winning idea requires you to do three things successfully:

  1. Avoiding false starts;
  2. Getting out of the starting blocks with the best reaction time ;
  3. And pushing at top speed to get across the finish line.

This in itself is quite a feat and even for legends like Bolt it doesnt always go according to plan. He once false started in a 100 metres race in the World Championships in Daegu 2011, South Korea. Despite that setback, he still went on to defend his titles in the 200 metres and 4 x 100 metres relays, ending with a world leading time and a new world record respectively. Not too shabby at all.

Move at L ight ning S peed

Bringing your idea from concept to fruition is going to take not only speed, but exceptional discipline , focus, and determination. It s going to also require a lot of repetition. Dont forget about speed!

When you combine both speed and repetition, it allows you to experiment with as many ways to deliver on your product or service as possible. By doing more and failing faster, youre allowing yourself to learn new lessons and simultaneously increas ing your knowledge and experience in the development of your idea. I found this out firsthand with each successive graphic t-shirt line I created and released.

So just to recap, getting your winning idea out there to your target market is going to require you putting in hard work . And remember, you have the makings of a champion, so dont be afraid to test out your idea. If you fail along the way, its okay. Itll be worth it in the end when youre reaping the rewards of success.

Chapter 9: 10 Ways for You to Approach a New Year of Business
The Next 365 D ays

The start of a new year can be both exciting and daunting (mostly the latter) as you again set out your goals for the next 365 days.

I prefer latching on to the excitement of a new beginning as it comes with energy, positivity and a renewed purpose. Look ahead to the unforeseen and relish the thought of the innumerable opportunities that await you and your business venture.

Appreciate each day that you are given and use every minute to cultivate new habits that will help to propel you forward. Read more.

Life is filled with unpredictable moments and even the best laid plans - photo 5

Life is filled with unpredictable moments and even the best laid plans sometimes get thwarted. Do not be deterred by disappointment. Its all a part of the journey and the upside is, each one of those bad moments comes with its own valuable lessons.

10 Extra Business L essons

In the previous section, I shared entrepreneurial lessons I had deciphered from Virgin Founder Richard Bransons autobiography, Losing My Virginity . Here are 10 more that I picked out ( in no particular order ) to help both you and your business thrive:

  1. Your reputation is the most valuable asset you will ever acquire; protect it.
  2. In order of importance, your employees come before your customers.
  3. Know when your luck has run out and walk away with your life intact.
  4. You will be more passionate about a business venture when it involves fun.
  5. Part ways with business partners and save your friendship when your singular vision for the future becomes different.
