Chapter 1

Jupiter Generations

Jupiter is the largest planet, by far. If the Sun represents the king, Jupiter represents the nobles. Jupiter in the birth chart shows how you are better than other people. This is because Jupiter is a social planet it is always comparing itself with others.

When you ask a person, What makes you great, what makes you superior to others, what makes you better?, expect to hear a series of words describing the qualities of the sign and house in which Jupiter is placed.

If you look at the famous people who have Jupiter in a particular sign, you will notice they are often great based on the sign of their Jupiter. They are uniquely better than others for the qualities of the sign of Jupiter.

When you compare yourself with others, you often feel you are superior based on the sign of Jupiter. For example, if you have Jupiter in Virgo, you feel others dont really have the grasp of details or dont work as hard as you do. Or if you have Jupiter in Libra, they arent as social, harmonious, or fair. If you have Jupiter in Scorpio, you think they arent as intense or probing as you are they are living life on the surface.

Because Jupiter rules growth, it also rules personal growth (how you grow and explore the world). With Jupiter in Cancer, you explore emotions, caring for others, and dependency issues. With Jupiter in Aries, you explore aggression and the spirit of newness. With Jupiter in Sagittarius, you explore new ways to tell a joke; you explore philosophy, religion, and the world.

People often overdo the sign in which Jupiter is placed. Jupiter in Scorpio can be overly sexual. Jupiter in Cancer can care too much (but often will not show it). Jupiter in Gemini can have a big mouth and be outspoken.

Finding ones purpose, often a big part of personal growth, comes through Jupiter. Jupiter in Scorpio investigates ones purpose. Jupiter in Cancer feels ones purpose is to care for others. In Leo, the purpose is to have fun, to be creative, to be happy. In Sagittarius, life can be a joke.

Jupiter is the reasonable planet. There is a reason for everything, even though that reason may not have much to do with the real purpose.

Of course, Jupiter is your sense of humor, what you find funny. Jupiter in Scorpio finds humor in pain and in subtle interactions that no one else notices. Jupiter in Capricorn finds humor in disasters, in serious situations; there is a bluesy quality to Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter in Aries finds humor in a challenge.

Jupiterian Qualities
  • Greatness, what makes one excel
  • Superiority
  • Exploration (i.e. exploring the qualities of the sign)
  • Outpouring of feeling, highly expressive
  • Exaggerated tendencies (e.g. Jupiter in Cancer can be overly sensitive)
  • Focused on purpose, on knowing the reasons
  • Sense of humor
  • Growth
  • Luck comes through (fill in quality of sign here). Example: Jupiter in Gemini luck through selling, communicating
