HI, FRIENDS!
Sam Turnbull hereand for the rest of the book for that matter. Im in total awe of the love and support Ive received over the years on my blog, YouTube channel, and social media, and with my first cookbook, Fuss-Free Vegan. When writing that book, my goal was to share my everyday comfort food favorites, veganized, to help make cooking plant-based food easier and more delicious. I wanted to take the weird out of vegan and to show people that eating a plant-only diet is really quite easy to do. You dont need to be a health nut or a master chef to make good food, and you dont even have to be vegan to enjoy a plant-based meal!
Im thrilled that my book made it into so many kitchens, and Im completely blown away by the hundreds of rave reviews it received online! I was touched every time someone shared a photo on social media of one of the dishes made in their own kitchen. My heart melted when I heard that Fuss-Free Vegan became a go-to resource for so many. And I turned into a complete puddle of mush when fans brought their tattered, stained, heavily dog-eared, and bookmarked copies of my book to signingsbecause, in my opinion, theres no better review for a cookbook than when its well-worn.
And now Im excited to go on this adventure with you again with another cookbook thats jam-packed full of the best vegan eats! Oowee, are there ever a whole lot of good recipes in this book. Get your forks ready because if you liked my first book, it gets even quicker, easier, cheaper, and totally drool-worthy delicious. But first
MY STORY
If youre new to me and my story, hello and welcome! Let me tell you a little about my journey and how I got here.
Im the last person in the world I thought would go vegan. Before you disagree and point me out as a girl who looks like she has always been veg, hear me out. I grew up an avid meat eater. There were animal heads on the walls of my familys house. I used to go fishing for fun, and I liked my steaks rare and bloody. No joke.
It weirds me out a little to share this with you now, but I think its important to be honest. We all start somewhere. Whether your goal is to go full-on vegan (yay!) or just to reduce animal-product consumption (awesome!), every bit helps; I support you. No matter where you are on your path toward veganism, its A-OK. Every action we take makes a difference no matter how small, and I applaud that. Its so much better to do something than to do nothing at all. So congratulate yourself for the changes youve made so farlike getting your hands on a copy of this book!
When I went vegan in 2012, I took the extreme route and changed overnight. All it took for me were a couple of documentaries andboom!no meat on my plate ever again. But I admit, it was difficult. At the time, vegan was still a word I had to explain to almost every friend and family member, and definitely every restaurant server. While some vegan products were available in stores, they were difficult to find, expensive, and, really, just not that great tasting. It was nothing compared to the latest plant-based-products craze thats going on these days, with all of these cool vegan options popping up in every grocery store, restaurant, and fast-food chain.
Honestly, though, Im not complaining. If good vegan eats had been easier to find back then, maybe I wouldnt have felt the need to create my own recipes, and maybe my blog It Doesnt Taste Like Chicken would never have come to fruition. And both of my cookbooks wouldnt exist either!
Those early days of plant-based eating forced me to be creative in the kitchen. If I wanted to truly enjoy my food, none of the health-focused, raw, dehydrated, brown mushy stuff or stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth vegan cheeses was going to do it for me. I craved hearty, satisfying foods that didnt feel like they were lacking anything. I wanted dishes that I could proudly share with my friends and family whether they were vegan or not. I didnt want to apologize for the lack of anything. So with these challenges in mind, I started developing my own recipes. But I have a secret
IM NOT A CHEF
Im not a trained chef. I didnt go to culinary school, Ive never worked in a professional kitchen, I wasnt taught fancy knife skills, and my only experience working in a restaurant was busing tables (which I soon learned I hated and quit after only three days). In fact, I never even refer to myself as a chef, as the word in French directly translates to chief, and Im not the chief of anyoneIm the only person in my kitchen!
