Cameron knocked on the door of the farmhouse at our goat farm in southwest Wales, his other hand clinging tightly to his mums. When I answered the door, the first thing I noticed was his eyes. Big and dark, they were filled with fierce intelligence.
The next thing I noticed was that he looked absolutely exhausted. Those beautiful eyes were ringed with black, and sunk deep into his skull. I saw, too, that his skin was red and raw-looking, his arms and legs were thin, and his belly was distended. He looked like a little old man. But he was only three years old.
Cameron had been suffering from severe eczema since birth. After bathing him, his devoted mum, Michaela, had to lift him out of the bath by his elbows because his entire body was covered with flaming red patches so severe they looked like burns. Neither Cameron nor his mum had slept through an entire night since hed been born his itchy, weepy, broken skin kept him in constant torment. And neither of them everhad a break.
