The impact of Moby-Dick
The book Moby-dick has enjoyed several interpretations, thanks to the biblical names of its characters. From names like Ishmael in the Bible, who was Abrahams illegitimate son later sent away with the arrival of Isaac. Ahab, the biblical King, was renowned for idolatry and an evil reign. For Rachel, the ship that saved Ishmael was the mother of Joseph in the bible. Similarly, Rachel convinced God to end the exile placed on the Jews because of their idolatry. She also brought Ishmael to Massachusetts, thereby saving him from exile. The whale in the book is equally significant, and Moby-Dick has garnered attention for being one of America's best reads.
