It integrates both behavioral and cognitive theories of psychology and targets our unrealistic thoughts and faulty ways of thinking, which distort our views and attitudes towards ourselves, our circumstances, and the world around us, and corrects them to help us become more emotionally and mentally well-adjusted.
All too often our problems and personal struggles stem from a negative view of ourselves and our situation. Our distorted thinking leads us to misinterpret things for the worse and makes it harder for us to cope with our stress and the challenges we face. I felt embarrassed about my ADHD and I hated how it made me feel so isolated from everyone else, like I was going too fast and forever waiting for someone to catch up to me. I cant count the number of times I wished I had an off button for my brain, just so I could stop feeling stupid or different or wrong. So believe me when I say that I know what its like to struggle with mental illness.
But then, after I started seeking therapy and counseling, I discovered cognitive-behavioral therapy, and it did wonders for me. Life got so much better once I started practicing CBT, so much so that I was intrigued enough to research about it some more and learn as much as I could so I could help others like me. Now here I am, writing this book.
