As an educator for almost twenty years, I can tell you the top question asked by parents is always regarding homework and how to help with it (and how much help, exactly). This book is, quite simply, a godsend for parents, but for teachers, too. It lays out exactly how adults can assist kids in organizing their assignments and tasks and is packed full of ideas that adults can actually use. For teachers, this book provides answers to those tricky homework questions. I see smiles and sighs of relief in our futures!
Andy Hagon, head of junior school, St. Bernards
Taking the Stress Out of Homework is a terrific, important book. It convincingly argues that parents need not be subject matter experts to help children master their assignments (breathe a sigh of relief, parents). Instead, it reframes the issue as one of helping students learn the fundamental competencies that underlie mastery: self-management, time management, organization, and study skills. The book is a true gift to parents and their kids alike.

We cant count the number of times weve been asked these kinds of questions. As parents, we all want to support our children, but sometimes thats easier said than done. Maybe the problem is time managementa child feels paralyzed by the thought of starting an assignment, or always runs out of time before a project needs to be turned in. Kids might need extra support understanding a specific topic, but as parents, how much help should we provide? All too often homework can create conflict in a family or stress for the child. It then becomes a source of dread and unhappiness for everyone.
Thats where we come in. While the goal of homework in education is to support what children are learning each day, its also to help them build skills like independence and responsibility, and to teach them how to create productive routines. These skills are essential for years to come, as kids progress from middle school to high school, college, and beyond. Whether your childs homework load is increasing and you want to set him or her up for success, or homework has become an unpleasant chore for your child, we offer concrete strategies to help. As parents, teachers, and tutors we understand the increasingly complex landscape of education. We wrote
