About the Author
d.d. Nickel has been working in the beauty industry as a professional makeup artist, educator, and beauty expert for over fifteen years. Her real interest in makeup began after a chance meeting with a renowned makeup artist shortly after her move to New York City. She spent the early years of her career assisting him on celebrity and industry shoots, and was instrumental in growing his retail business as national makeup artist and director of education. In the latter position, d.d. conceptualized and wrote the educational materials used in training makeup artists across the country in stores like Barneys New York, Nordstrom, and Sephora.
She has spent the last dozen years as a successful freelance makeup artist, working on popular television shows, commercials, print, Broadway, red carpets, New York Fashion Week, and with countless celebrities. One of her first freelance opportunities was with E! Entertainment, where she spent several seasons working on the hit TLC show, What Not to Wear. She created the look for the Tony Awardwinning lead of the Broadway show, Wonderful Town, and has helped countless celebrities look their best on screen and on red carpets from Cannes to Los Angeles. In addition to launching a successful freelance career, she also continued to write and create training materials for Victorias Secret Beauty, used in stores across the country.
In 2006, d.d. opened a makeup studio near her home in New Haven, Connecticut, offering private lessons and her signature line of makeup, d.d.Nickel, now available online at www.ddnickel.com. In early 2007, she began offering on-location services for the bride and bridal party. Her studio and bridal beauty business has more than doubled each year and continues to grow.
