Camping is a fun activity to do with friends and family; but it can be hard to find recipes to use at the campfire which makes cooking while camping tricky. Fried Potatoes
Camping doesnt mean you cant have hearty, delicious meals. This recipe uses a mountain pie-maker to create buttery fried potatoes that are to die for.

Servings: 4-6
Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp. butter
- Dash of Salt and pepper
- Pinch of Garlic salt, to taste
- Parsley
Directions:
Arrange the potato slices in an iron pie-maker. Add some butter, salt, pepper, garlic, and a sprinkle of parsley. Tightly close the maker and place over the coals/ashes for about 5 minutes on either side. Remove from heat and allow to cool before eating.
Tuna Melts
Tuna melts are a refreshing melt to have during the spring and summer months. They hit the spot after a long day of hiking. This recipe allows you to have that delicious meal while camping.

Ingredients
- 1 can tuna fish (prepared with mayonnaise and pickle)
- 2 slices of bread, buttered
- 1 slice of cheese
- 1 slice of tomato
Directions:
Add one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the iron pie maker, followed by the cheese and tomato. Cover with the other slice of bread and close the pan. Place in the ashes for about 5 minutes on either side. Remove and enjoy!
Hot Ham and Cheese
After a long day of hiking or swimming, a good ham and cheese sandwich really hits the spot. This recipe uses a mountain pie-iron to make a hot ham and cheese sandwich.

Servings: 1
Ingredients:
- 2 slices of bread, buttered
- 2 slices of ham
- 1 slice of cheese (your choice)
- 1 tsp. mustard
Directions
Add one slice of bread, buttered side down, to the iron, followed by a slice of ham, cheese, and another slice of ham. Spread mustard over the ham and cover with the other slice of bread. Tightly close the iron and place in the coals for 5 minutes on either side. Remove from the heat and enjoy!
Eggs
Breakfast while camping can be a tricky thing: do you eat cereal? Or protein bars? This recipe allows you to have delicious eggs for breakfast with the use of a pie iron.

Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- Cheese
- Mushrooms
- Ham cubes
- 1 pepper, diced
Directions
Place the eggs in the iron, followed by the cheese, mushrooms, ham cubes, and peppers. Close the iron and place in the coals for 6 minutes on either side. Remove and enjoy hot.
Campfire Chicken Pot Pie
Who says you cant have chicken pot pie while you are camping? For this recipe, you will need a Dutch oven.

Cook time: 1 hr.,

Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts, cubed and cooked
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
- 2 cans mixed vegetables (with potatoes)
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can cream of chicken soup
Directions
Add all the ingredients (except the biscuit dough) to the Dutch oven and cover with the lid. Place it over the ashes until the oven begins to get warm. Spread the biscuit dough over the top and replace the lid. Return to the ashes, placing a few warm coals on top of the lid to help heat the biscuit layer. Allow to cook for another 50 minutes or until the biscuits are cooked through. Enjoy warm.
Trail Mix
While you are out hiking it is always a good idea to have a snack handy in case you need a quick pick-me-up. This trail mix is delicious and easy to make.

Ingredients
- c. dried cranberries
- c. raisins
- c. blueberries
- c. almonds
- c. walnuts
- c. peanuts
- c. sunflower seeds
- c. pumpkin seeds
- c. semi-sweet chocolate chips*
* Instead of chocolate chips, you could use peanut butter chips or butterscotch chips
Directions:
Combine all the ingredients into a bowl and toss until well combined. Store in an airtight container and use resealable bags to carry with you.
Baked Apples
Baked apples are a great snack or dessert to have while camping. This recipe is filling and combines a variety of flavors making it the perfect thing to satisfy that sweet tooth.
Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 45 min
Servings: 4
Ingredients:
- 4 large apples, such as Gala or Granny Smith
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/4 c. cranberries, dried
- 2 tbsp. walnuts, chopped
- 2 tbsp. raisins
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, ground
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg, ground
- 1 tbsp. butter, unsalted and softened
Directions:
Core each apple and, using a brush, lightly coat the inside with lemon juice. Set this aside on a piece of foil. In a bowl, mix all the remaining ingredients, except the butter, together and spoon into the center of each apple. Place a slice of butter on top and tightly wrap the whole apple in the foil. Place them in the hot coals for about 45 minutes or until the apples become tender. Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel if you desire.
