- Use a heavy duty foil to cook with.
- Cut up the ingredients in uniform sized pieces. This will ensure that all parts of the meal will cook at the same rate.
- Customize the foil packets for family members. You can add or remove ingredients from each packet so that each family member gets his/her favorite mix of ingredients!
- You can make the packets several hours ahead of time and store them in your ice chest or RV refrigerator.
- When camping or at a vacation home, you dont have to worry about the grill being as clean as you would like! With foil packets, your food never comes in contact with the grill.
- Be careful! When you remove the packet from the grill, open one side first to allow the steam to escape.
How to Prepare Foil Packets
You can purchased ready-to-use foil packets or make your own out of heavy duty foil. Making a foil packet is easy! Follow these simple directions to fold a perfect packet every time you grill:
- Cut an 18 by 12 piece of heavy duty or grilling foil for each packet you want to prepare.
- Spray what will be the inside of each foil sheet with a cooking spray. This will prevent the food from sticking to the foil.
- Put all of the ingredients in the center of one side of the foil sheet.
- Fold the foil over the food so that the edges meet.
- Make a tight fold to seal the ingredients in the foil packet.
- Make a double seal by folding the seam over again and flattening it with your fingers.
- Make sure there is enough room between the edges of the packet and the food inside for the heat to properly circulate.
- If using a gas grill, set it at medium heat.
- Rotate packets after 10 minutes.
- Follow recipe directions for cooking times.
