If you would consider baking to be a science, then smoking meat is more of an acquired skill to have. It enables you to add the most amount of flavor you can to a dish with the least amount of work required. Now keep in mind that the cooking times will certainly be extended, but the payoff is definitely worth it. Smoking itself can take anywhere from 3 to 12 hours, but in the end you will have a succulent, juicy and healthy meat dish that you can enjoy.

Now, lets look at some of the most common smoking methods that you can use to smoke your meat.

I am certain that you have seen some TV shows out there that highlight smoking meat cooking methods such as BBQ with Bobby Flay and Pitmasters. Modern smoking can include various tools such as a traditional smoker or something as easy as putting smoking wood chips into your grill.

I know that by watching these TV shows, many people are inclined to believe that smoking meat is one of the hardest ways to prepare meat when this is simply not the case. Smoking meat is incredibly easy to do, especially when you use traditional smoking methods and tools. These methods are not only budget friendly, but it can ensure that you make delicious barbecue meals all of the time.

This is one smoking method than many professional smokers swear by. The smoke ring is simply a ring of pink that appears on the skin of the meat, making it a trademark of smoked meat. What many people do not understand is a smoke ring can be produced by various means, including chemically produced, so it does not indicate that it is a sign of being professionally smoked by a professional. A smoke ring can appear simply by leaving meat in a smoke for long periods of time.

Marinade refers to the mix that is prepared beforehand and that is added to your meat or vegetables prior to the cooking process. The word marinate refers to the actual process of placing your meat and vegetables into your premade marinade.

Now, that you fully understand what these two words are, lets explore the many uses of different marinades.

All marinades tend to be somewhat acidic, which can help to permeate into your various vegetables and meats that you cook.

Regardless of what kind of meat or vegetables you marinate, you can marinate these foods for a few hours to even a few days depending on what kind flavor you want your dish to have. Also keep in mind that the different types of cuisines that you want to make, the ingredients that you will use for your marinade will differ.

3. American: Raw honey, Vinegar, Pepper, Beer, Sugar and Mustard

4. Spanish: Red Wine, Olive Oil, Rosemary and White Wine Vinegar

5. Italian: Basil, Thyme, Olive Oil, Oregano and Garlic

(2) What Is Marinade Used For?

As I explained earlier in this chapter, marinating your food for several hours or several days can hold several advantages for you. Some of these advantages include:

1. Adding Additional Flavor

Whenever you place your meat or vegetables into a marinade, the acids in your concoction will help to break down any tough tissues of the meat, which means that the various flavors in your marinade will soak deep into the meat and remain there.

2. Help to Make Your Meat More Tender

Since we already discussed that the marinade helps to break down meat and vegetable tissues. Broken tissues leave both your veggies and meat extremely tender and soft.

3. Helps to Bring the Meat Out of Your Juices

Once you place your raw ingredients into your marinade, the marinade can help to release their natural juices and give your dish an extra dose of flavor. If you want to add more of a punch to your dish, this is the best way to do so.

4. Help to Make Your Meat Much Healthier

Once your raw ingredients are marinated, your marinade will help to prevent your ingredients from releasing heterocyclic amines.

Also, you need to keep in mind that when you are placing raw meats into your marinade, some potential bacteria will be released into the marinade. As a precaution I highly recommend that you need to cook both your meat and sauce at high temperatures to kill off any harmful bacteria.
