Let Me Tell You Why I Love Precuts First, theyre pre-cut! How many hours do quilters spend cutting? By the time youre done, you dont even want to sew! One day a woman with severe arthritis came into my shop to buy precuts. I asked her how, with such gnarled hands, she was able to quilt. She replied, Oh, Honey, Im not going to stop reading just because I cant hold a book! She taught me that when you are passionate about something, you dont stop doing ityou just find a way to make it easier. When you walk into a fabric store, its easy to get overwhelmed. The thought of having to gather 40 different bolts of fabric with just the right color and print is too much to handle. I love that precuts are from one coordinating collection.
Its like having a designer standing beside you, telling you what to choose, turning hours of indecision into a process that takes only a few minutes. Then Im always amazed when my finished quilt looks so much better than I ever couldve imagined. So I have learned to trust the designers. With this book, you can become inspired by precuts. It includes more than 25 block patterns and tips and tricks for using precuts. There are also easy-to-follow yardage charts for borders, backing, and bindingeverything you need to make a quilt.
Life is busy. Someone is always getting married, graduating, or having a baby and lets face it, you want to create something memorable for each of them without having to work too hard. Precuts are the answer. So grab your precuts and let them do the work for you! Happy quilting! With that in mind: If you are using other fabrics with your precuts, dont prewash those fabrics either. Its best to use either all washed or all unwashed fabrics in your quilts. If you think a fabric might bleed, test it by getting part of it wet, then press it between two pieces of white fabric. If you see any traces of color on the white fabric, the fabric you are testing will bleed when washed.
If this is the case, dont use that fabric or use a Shout Color Catcher when you wash the quilt. Using Jelly Rolls for Binding The 2 strips are perfect for creating a scrappy binding. Determine the length you need, sew the ends together at an angle, and bind. Handling the Pinked Edges Many precuts have pinked edges to prevent them from fraying. When working with them: Measure your pieces so you know exactly how big they are. Trim them to the needed size if necessary.
When sewing pinked edges together, line up the outer edge or top of the peak with your other piece of fabric. When working with another piece that isnt pinked, put the pinked edge on top.
