Sleeping In
Like a slow, graceful dawn, a quiet interplay of blue, lavender, and gray will make waking up a tender affair. Layer Burnished Lilac and Crystal Gray onto your bed with pillowcases of one and sheets of the other, perhaps with a soft hand-knitted Cloudburst throw. Try an accent wall of Quarry in an otherwise Crystal Gray room. No matter how you combine them, your bedroom will be a restful cocoon.
June Bouquet
The longest days of the year foster the most beautiful blues and purples in the garden. Iris and campanula spring upward, with carpets of alyssum and violets underfoot. Bring these velvety tones inside with chairs and sofas upholstered in floral purples and blues like Campanula and Blue Iris. Pale area rugs of White Alyssum and walls of Orchid Tint mimic the June gardens soft backdrop.
African Print
African prints mix lively, bright colors with earthier tonesa juxtaposition of modern and ancient that characterizes life in many African villages. Combining bold and grounded tones forms a dynamic contrast perfect for shadowed rooms where the furnishings need to generate heat and light. Paint your walls in Honey and let the rest of your furnishings radiate with Grenadine, Sulphur Spring, and Blueprint.
Indigo Magic
The process of natural indigo dyeing is magical: dip a Bright White cloth into the dye vat, and it emerges a greenish color that gradually cures in the air into a pale indigo. Each subsequent immersion deepens the color until it becomes Dark Sapphire, the color of the night sky. Freely blend the colors of the indigo process (with an equally unfettered mix of handmade patterns and solid fabrics) in rooms to cast an all-blue spell.
Downtown Denim
Dark-finish jeans and a white T-shirt are at the center of the hipster wardrobe. Add a dash of ironic gray and a hit of technology-inflected blue to create a cool, urban palette. Paint an old floor Blue Nights, put a Grisaille carpet on top, and finish the room with Halogen Blue and Star White furnishings. Youll have the coolest pad on the block.
Big Sur
A brisk salt breeze rolling off of the Pacific. A hike through the live oaks and the pines. A picnic on the beach. Bring these memories into your home in the clean, uncomplicated colors of Big Sur. Plein Air and Pristine stay mostly in the background on walls, draperies, and carpets. Trekking Green and Sea Spray upholsteries welcome and embrace you like nature herself.
New England Cottage
The clapboard house with a white picket fence has been an icon of domestic bliss for centuries, and this Home, Sweet Home aesthetic is still beautiful for exteriors today. Start with warm Winter White as the principal color. Paint shutters and porch floors Antique Green. Legion Blue draws attention to doors. And Milky Green is a perfect choice for old-fashioned porch ceilings. The palette works indoors, too.
Sea Glass
Tumbled and sanded by the gentle rocking of the waves, sea glass elicits a relaxed, mellow feeling. Perhaps thats why these soothing shades of green are frequently used in spa environments. White Jades subtle tone is perfect for the floor and wall tiles of a spa-like bathroom, perhaps with borders of Bottle Green. Towels and simple dcor of Green Bay and Clearly Aqua maintain a Zen-like vibe.
Watercolor Landscape
Do you need an antidote to the workday blues? Color your home office in a painterly distillation of air, water, earth, and foliage. Start with a floor covering of gentle, stable Abbey Stone. Cushion the furniture with Garden Green. Paint your desktop in nuanced Pacific and organize pens and paperclips in Pagoda Blue desk accessories. Youll feel happy and creative when you sit down to work.
Turquoise Mountain
Infuse your outdoor dining area with a sense of the opulence of ancient Persia. Enamel your metal dining table in Alhambra and the chairs in Puce. Choose Alloy cushions and mosaic-patterned napkins. You might try painting cachepots filled with ferns and ficus trees in Deep Peacock Blue. Your porch will be fit for a pasha.
Napa Valley Picnic
Gourmet colors infuse kitchen and dining environments with the delicious appeal of this epicurean destination. Go rich and dark with Black Bean countertops and Tapenade floors or keep it light and let Chardonnay take the lead. Either way, layer more color into the room by painting the insides of the cabinets Olive Branch as a lush setting for dinnerware and glasses.
Old Kashmir
The grand houseboats of 19th-century Kashmir were elaborate white floating summer palaces where British comforts such as enameled bone china tea services blended with Mogul-influenced carpets and inlaid furniture. Hang simple curtains in Indian Tan in a white room and then let intricate patterns of Russet Brown, Shale, and Indian Teal bring the flavor of old Kashmir to lush upholsteries and handmade pillows and carpets.
