Introduction
How to Say It: Job Interviews will provide you with the tools, words, phrases, and scripts needed to shine in all phases of the interview. From that ever-so-important first impression through all the stages of the interview process through effective follow-up strategies, How to Say It: Job Interviews will empower you to approach the interview process with confidence in your ability to work the interview room and communicate your goals and accomplishments.
COMMON INTERVIEW MYTHS
Throughout my years as an interview coach, I noticed that both recent college graduates and seasoned executives use the same tired technique: They show up the day of the interview without much preparation, holding on to the following interview myths that hinder their ability to land positions.
Myth 1: The interview begins when Im sitting across from the interviewer. Many job seekers believe the time to start making an impression is when they are invited in for an interview.
Truth: The interview process begins when you decide to search for a position. For the one-on-one meeting to go smoothly, you have a responsibility to learn how your skills, knowledge, and abilities are marketable. Simultaneously, you must be able to tie in what you offer to the needs of hiring organizations.
Myth 2: The interviewer controls the interview. On the surface, this premise makes sense. The hiring organization is the one that is hiring, so it should have full control over what happens during an interview.
Truth: Both you and the interviewer have a very specific role during the interview. Active participation from both sides will turn a ho-hum interview into a winning one. Lets take a look at the chart below.
As illustrated in the chart your role and that of the interviewer overlap and - photo 3

As illustrated in the chart, your role and that of the interviewer overlap, and you both have responsibilities to ensure the interview goes smoothly.
Myth 3: If the rsum is written correctly, it will reveal my qualifications. See my rsum is the common response given by candidates who are not prepared to answer interview questions.
Truth: The purpose of the rsum is to attract the attention of a hiring manager, but it is up to you to sell yourself during an interview and back up, as well as elaborate on, the information provided in the rsum.

Through sharpening your interview skills, you will be able to overcome these misconceptions and positively affect the outcome of the interview. When fully prepared, you will be equipped to handle yourself with poise, answer interview questions with ease, and articulately present your strengths.
How to Say It: Job Interviews will provide you with fundamental interviewing principles, thought-provoking preinterview exercises, sample interview answers, scripts, and interview-related letters you can draw on to improve your interview skills and land a job offer. The book is split into four parts to ensure that every aspect of the interview process is covered.
PART I: YOUR INTERVIEW TOOLKIT
Part I focuses on activities you can do to prepare for an interview and gives pointers you can use to perform well during interviews. You will learn how to craft a thirty-second pitch that demonstrates the immediate contributions you can bring to a hiring organization; how to coach your references to provide compelling statements on your behalf; and how to make a positive impression during interviews by dressing appropriately, becoming aware of your nonverbal communication, and overcoming anxiety.
