Never Good Enough: Escaping the Prison of Perfectionism: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Never Good Enough: Escaping the Prison of Perfectionism" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

There are two sides to just about everything in life and perfectionism isn't any different. Most perfectionists care so much about the things that are important to them and care about how they do these things. We want our projects, our homes, relationships, and lives to be the best they can be.

If we use our time wisely we can bring into realitythrough effort or ingenuityall of the potential we envision.

Okay, so we tend to be tough on ourselves. We're often filled with stress and anxiety. We can procrastinate, big-time. And far too often we feel we've fallen short of our idealized goals.

This hyper-focus keeps us staring closely at everything we believe is wrong rather than seeing what's right. This is especially true when it comes to our self-perception where we measure our accomplishments, our looks, finances, education, career, or anything else against others. And, for most perfectionists, we find that we need to do better. We should do better. We must do better!

We become over-achievers and over-thinkers and over-controlling and lose all sense of flexibility and happiness. Life soon becomes a strait-jacket we can never free ourselves from.

I want to show you how to recognize when your perfectionism is hurting you and your relationships then rein it in. You want to get your perfectionism to work for you rather than against you, and by getting it to take a backseat at times, you'll find that you're more productive, there's more time in your days, you feel more relaxed, more comfortable, and a whole lot happier.

Introduction
Picture 17

I 'VE BEEN A PERFECTIONIST for as long as I can remember. Even in Kindergarten, I wanted to draw better, write better, and skip rope better than any other kid in my class. They weren't my greatest competitors though...I was. To this day I'm always trying to one-up myself, regardless of what the task or project is. And you know what? It's stressful!

I'm doing a lot better and not nearly as hard on myself as I used to be, and certainly not as anxious or high-strung. Some days I do pretty well then other days I have to fight my automatic tendencies to battle against this negative trait.

There are good sides to my perfectionism though. It helps me run my online psychic business and write several books a year. The downside is that I often face burnoutwhich is common with perfectionists. I'll spend many hours seven days a week working on a new book, get it done and published, then spend a week or so where I can't focus at all.

In the past, I wouldn't take any time off to recover. Instead, I would sit at my desk staring at a blank screen, trying to come up with new ideas for books, or do busy work that really accomplished nothing. Now I'm gentler with myself and after a writing marathon, I'll take a break for a day or two, or more if I need it.

There are two sides to just about everything in life and perfectionism isn't any different. I feel like most perfectionists care so much about the things that are important to them and care about how they do these things. We want our projects, our homes, relationships, and lives to be the best they can be. We see others who could care less, are lazy, or settle for less than. Not us.
