H ydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) has been used by many of us at one point or the other. This may be for cleaning wounds, teeth whitening or as a natural bleach. However, what most people do not know is that this same naturally occurring compound has a greater number of uses for our health and environment. It can be used effectively for a variety of cleaning and personal care purposes.

Hydrogen peroxide is a compound that occurs naturally in nature. It is often available in liquid form as a colorless and odorless liquid that is slightly more viscous than water. It is found in the cell structures of animals and plants as well as in the atmosphere, springs, lakes and other body of water. It is formed through a natural process in the upper atmosphere that involves the combination of ozone and water.

It is important to note that hydrogen peroxide is found in many healing springs around the world. Many people have been healed of various illnesses by drinking or bathing in these waters. The root of plants absorb hydrogen peroxide and it is an essential part of fresh vegetables like asparagus, cabbage, green peppers and fruits like apples, oranges and watermelons. The antibacterial properties of honey can also be attributed to the hydrogen peroxide content.

O ne of the most important characteristics of hydrogen peroxide is its strong oxidizing property. Oxidation is simply the ability of a chemical compound to transfer oxygen atoms. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down easily in water to release oxygen and water. This ability to readily release oxygen is what makes this compound so powerful. Household concentrations of hydrogen peroxide are usually 3-9 percent volume in a solution of distilled water. Even though this may seem mild, it is powerful enough to release oxygen molecules that operate at the microscopic level to kill pathogens, bacteria, fungi, molds and other anaerobic life forms. It is one of the least toxic antiseptics and germicides that are available.

The presence of hydrogen peroxide promotes the health of living tissues. This is because it kills parasites, germs, bacteria, viruses and fungi. Furthermore, human cells require oxygen to survive and hydrogen peroxide makes it possible to increase the amount of oxygen that is available through oxygenation. Subsequently more oxygen will be available for the blood and vital organs. A healthy level of hydrogen peroxide gives a great boost to immunity and the body is better able to fight diseases and infections.

M any therapeutic benefits can be obtained through hydrogen peroxide therapy. Over the past hundred years, several doctors across the world have introduced highly diluted amounts of hydrogen peroxide into the bodies of patients and wonderful results have been obtained. The list of ailments that have been treated with this therapy is quite extensive. Below are some of the disease conditions that can be improved or cured with hydrogen peroxide therapy:

1. Infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi as well as other parasitic organisms can be treated with hydrogen peroxide effectively.

2. Pulmonary diseases like emphysema, bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Hydrogen peroxide treatment can improve breathing and restore the energy of these patients.

3. Cardiovascular ailments like coronary artery disease, angina and peripheral vascular conditions have recorded marked improvements.

4. Endocrine problems such as hypothyroidism and type II diabetes can be improved with this treatment.

5. Inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis can be treated with hydrogen peroxide

therapy to reduce swelling and improve mobility.

H ydrogen peroxide is manufactured in commercial quantities and is available for usage in several forms:

1. 3% Pharmaceutical Grade : This is the grade that is available in supermarkets or drug stores. It is however not recommended for internal use because it contains stabilizers such as phenol, acetanilide, tertrasodium phosphate and sodium stanate.

2. 6% Beauty Salon Grade : This is the type that is used in beauty salons for bleaching hair and must not be taken internally.

3. 30% 35% Technical Grade : This is used in several industries for a number of purposes. These include textile manufacturing, paper manufacturing, recycling, electronics cleaning and much more. This grade is not also recommended for internal use.

4. 90% Grade : This is used as a source of oxygen for space exploration and military rockets.

5. 35% Food Grade : This is the grade that is approved for usage as a non nontoxic disinfectant in the food industry. It is mixed with water and sprayed on fruits, vegetables and whey products to prevent bacterial contamination. It is also sprayed on containers of food products. This is the only grade that is suitable for internal consumption.

Note : 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide must be properly diluted before it can be used internally or for other household purposes.

When you want to buy Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, you can find solutions that have already been diluted to 3, 6, 8, 9 or 12 percent.

Here Is How To Make A 3% Solution Of Hydrogen Peroxide :

Mix 1 fluid ounce of 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide with 11 ounces of distilled water.

6. Sodium Percarbonate : This is also called dry hydrogen peroxide. It is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and soda ash and can be purchased easily from chemical suppliers, agricultural suppliers and cleaning companies. Adding an equal amount of water to sodium percarbonate produces approximately a 27 percent hydrogen peroxide solution. A regular solution is made with 1/4 cup of sodium percarbonate to 1 quart of water. Using a sodium percarbonate solution is necessary when you want more powerful stain removing action and deep cleaning.

Note: This is the secret of "oxygen bleaching" products that have become popular in recent years.
