  1. Mouthwash: Freshen your breath and relieve canker sore pain by dissolving 1 teaspoon baking soda in a glass of water. Swish, spit out and rinse. This neutralizes bad odors.
  2. Toothpaste: Make yours by mixing it with 3% hydrogen peroxide. This is an alternative to commercial fluoride toothpastes.
  3. Tooth Polish/Whitener: Dip your toothbrush with toothpaste into baking soda and use for an extra shinning boost.
  4. Care for Oral Devices: Soak oral devices like mouthpieces, retainers and dentures in a solution of 2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in a bowl of warm water. This removes food particles, bad odors and keeps the devices clean and fresh. You can also brush them clean with baking soda.
  5. Facial and Body Scrub: Give your entire face and body that refreshing feel by making a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Apply on your body in a gentle stroke to remove dead skin and rinse off.

For insect bites, make a paste of baking soda with water and spread as a salve (ointment) onto the affected skin. The alkaline nature of baking soda will help neutralize the acidity of insect bites and venoms.
  9. Hand Cleanser & Softener: Do away with harsh soaps and slowly scrub away ground-in dirt with a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water or gentle liquid hand soap. Rinse and pat dry.
  10. Combs and Brushes: Remove natural oil build up and product residue by soaking combs and brushes in a solution of 1 teaspoon baking soda in a medium bowl of warm water. Rinse and allow to dry. Keep your combs and brushed clean for a lustrous hair with more shine.
  11. Bath Soak: Make a bath soak by adding 1/2 cup baking soda to your bath to neutralize acids on your skin and wash away trapped dirts and perspirations. This makes your skin supple.
  12. Treat Diaper Rash: Relieve diaper rash by adding 2 tablespoons baking soda to your babys bathwater.
  13. Treat Skin Irritation: Relieve skin irritations and soften it by adding 1 cup baking soda to bathwater. Also, relieve itchy winter skin in a bath of 1 cup baking soda and 1 1/4 cups baby or light oil in the water.
  14. Clean Toothbrushes: Soak toothbrush in a solution of 1/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup water. Leave brushes to soak in solution overnight for a thorough cleaning.
  15. Sponge Bath: Freshen up your bath with a washcloth dipped in a mixture of 4 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart water.
  16. Soften Tough Calluses: Stir 2 tablespoons baking soda into a basin of warm water and add in a few drops of lavender oil. Soak legs in solution for 15 minutes, then scrub calluses away using 3 parts baking soda, 1 part water and 1 part brown sugar. Apply moisturizer and a warm towel foot wrap and leave for about 5 minutes for an effective foot treatment.
  17. Shaving: This is for men with sensitive skin. A solution of 1 tablespoon baking soda in 1 cup water makes a wonderful pre-shave treatment or soothing aftershave rinse. For an instant relieve from razor burn, dab on a solution of baking soda.

Cleaning Purposes

Transform and revamp your household with the cleaning power of baking soda.

  1. Surface Soft Scrub: For a safe and effective cleaning of bathroom sinks, tubs and tiles including fiberglass and glossy tiles, lightly sprinkle baking soda on a clean damp sponge and scrub as usual. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. For a double cleaning power, make a paste of baking soda, coarse salt and liquid soap. Allow to sit then scour off.
  2. Clean Walls and Mirrors: Spray a solution of 1 part baking soda to 1 part water to your countertops, mirrors and walls, then wipe with a clean sponge or cloth.
  3. Clean Cooking Pots and Pans: Remove grease and foods left on pans, pot and dishes by adding 2 tablespoons baking soda along with your regular dish detergent to the dish water. For sticky pots and pans, let them soak in the baking soda and detergent with water first to loosen the sticky residue. Then use dry baking soda on a clean damp cloth or sponge as a scratch less scouring powder.
  4. Freshen Cleaning Sponges: Soak stale smelling sponges in a strong solution of baking soda to get rid of the mess. Adding 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of hot water will do the magic.
  5. Clean Microwave: Sprinkling baking soda on a clean damp sponge and gently wipe the inside and outside of your microwave clean. Doing this will never leave a harsh chemical smell.
  6. Clean Tea and Coffee Pots: Remove tea and coffee stains and get rid of bitter off-tastes by washing your mugs and coffee makers in a solution of 1/4 cup baking soda to 1 quart warm water. To tackle stubborn stains, do soak overnight in solution of baking soda and detergent or you scrub with baking soda on a clean damp sponge.
  7. Clean Vinyl Shower Curtains: Clean and deodorize your vinyl shower curtain by sprinkling baking soda on a clean damp brush or sponge then scrub gently. Rinse clean with water and hang to dry.
