Youre bringing a new human into the world, throwing caution to the wind, and trying to figure out how on earth to create a nursery like the ones youve seen online or on social media. They look so perfect, dont they? The perfect crib, the immaculate and effortlessly organized changing table, and just the right amount of stuffed animalshow did they do it?

When I first started designing nurseries in 2007, there were only a handful of stores that sold nursery furniture. There were a very limited amount of brands selling crib bedding and rocking chairs, and there werent a lot of style options. Customization was almost completely out of reach for the average consumer, and the idea of interior design seemed inaccessible to most people setting out to plan their nursery.

Now, more than a decade later, the nursery design industry has exploded! Pinterest, Instagram, and HGTV have made interior design more accessible than ever, and parents want to design a nursery just as amazing as any other room in the home.

The problem now is that there are too many options. Anyone looking to design a nursery will find thousands of aspirational images online and across social media, along with an onslaught of brands making all kinds of nursery products in every possible color, pattern, and style. Over the years, more furniture companies have launched baby furniture, more brands have been popping up that specialize in nursery dcor, and the options for customization are much more accessible. And with sites like Etsy offering affordable one-of-a-kind options, the possibilities are literally endless.

Most of my interior design clients come to me confused, overwhelmed, and aimless. They want direction in this overly saturated market, a guide to help them navigate the entire process. Its easy to find inspiration photos of nurseries that you love, but then what? I see so many people with a proverbial pile of inspiration, but without the direction to know what to do with it. Ive seen this situation create unnecessary stress during a time that should be fun and exciting!

My intention with this book is to give you the tools to create a beautiful and functional nursery. Youll learn my tips and tricks for planning, budgeting, shopping, safety, and styling so that you can create a loving, welcoming space for your new little one.

Im not your typical creative personality. Im highly organized and live for a good spreadsheet (a strange thing to enjoy, I know), and in my free time, I also love learning about science, health, and technology. I like pineapple pizza, I collect rocks and minerals, and if you give me a house plant (preferably one thats very, very easy to care for), Ill be your best friend forever.

I grew up in a home where design was a part of almost everything. My father also went to art school and worked in design for years, and I have so many memories of watching him workfixing things around the house, remodeling the bathroom, even making a life-size metal bust of my sister and her husband for their weddingno joke! My artistic nature was always encouraged as a child, something Im eternally grateful for as an adult. As soon as I finished my art degree, I went straight into an interior design program and knew right away that it was where I belonged.

My first job out of design school was at a small studio that specialized in nurseries and childrens rooms. It was completely novel to me and I was intrigued by the idea of the added function that these rooms needed. Coupled with the expanded range of colors and patterns that clients were willing to explore and the warm and cozy emotions that went along with it, I was hooked. No beige sofas here! (Not that theres anything wrong with beige.) I started Little Crown Interiors in 2008, less than a year after I finished my design degree.

The nursery is an incredibly special space in the home where many memories will be made, and I believe that every family deserves to have a space that feels comfortable, safe, and beautiful. Thats exactly what I set out to do with Little Crown Interiors, and here I am more than a dozen years later with hundreds of projects under my belt, and ready to share everything with you!
