Thanks also to friends who constantly hold me up, send me new ideas, and keep me laughing: Kris Grinstad, Bonnie Stafford, Peggy Campbell, and Pat Asmundson.

Thanks, everyone! -MA.K. I would like to acknowledge MaryAnn Kohl for her open communication, genuine warmth and sincerity resulting in the creation of Good Earth Art; Sandy May for her computer resources; Jean Coursey for her helpful suggestions; and my family and friends for supporting my efforts. -CG.
USING THE SYMBOLS
In the upper page margins and in the Table of Contents, graphic symbols can be found to make the projects in
Good Earth Art usable and accessible. The symbols will help quickly identify which projects are appropriate for your particular needs. Use them as suggestions.
Feel free to experiment and change projects to suit your needs, the needs of your children, and to utilize whatever supplies you have on hand.
Age Suggestion - indicates a general idea of age appropriateness. No two children are alike in ability or interest at any age, so use this symbol only as a suggestion and not a firm rule. The + means all ages above that number. A project labeled 1+up is truly that - for one year olds on up to adult. Let your knowledge of children guide you in selecting projects, and use this symbol as a loose indication of difficulty.
Recycled Materials - indicates projects that use materials saved from the trash or gathered from free sources. Most of these projects can be recycled after creating, or after they have been enjoyed for a period of time.
From Nature - indicates a project which uses materials collected from the backyard, woods, beach, or which takes place in the outdoors.>
Good Group Project - these projects work especially well with large and small groups, as well as individual art exploration.
Edible - eat this project during use or at completion. Only eat projects with this symbol.
Homemade - indicates a project that is made to substitute for a commercial product.
Gift - indicates an art project which can be used as a gift, as a container for a gift, or as wrapping for a gift.
Supervision - indicates a project that needs help only in the preparation of materials before beginning to create, or is difficult and needs help throughout (especially in the case of young children).
Caution - usually indicates that use of electrical or sharp tools is involved. Suggests taking extra care during a particular step of the project to avoid injury or mishap.
Authors Favorite - indicates projects which each author has chosen as one of her favorite projects. Reasons for choice vary, but usually suggest the art activity is fun, pretty, or good for the earth.
Bright Ring Publishing and the authors of
