However, the economic and social impacts of COVID-19 will continue to be felt long after the outbreak has been contained, and many businesses, services and events referenced in this guide may experience ongoing restrictions. Some businesses may be temporarily closed, have changed their opening hours and services, or require bookings; some will unfortunately have closed their doors permanently. We suggest you check with venues before visiting for the latest information.

Dining Out

Dining in Dubai is an extraordinarily multicultural experience. Arabic and Indian fare are the most prevalent, but you can feast on anything from kebabs to fish and chips in the citys myriad eateries. These run the gamut from simple street kitchens to luxe dining temples.

Farm to Fork

Taking global fare local is not unique to Dubai, but its arrived with a vengeance. As awareness has grown, demand for certified organic produce has increased right along with it. Farms in the UAE have expanded their operations, and farmers markets pop up all over. Even supermarkets have joined the locavore trend by marking the origin of their produce.

Emirati Cuisine

Restaurants serving Emirati food (pictured) used to be rare, but thankfully this is changing. Typical dishes are one-pot stews featuring a combination of grains, vegetables and meat or fish, flavoured with spices and topped with nuts or dried fruit.

Camel Milk

Known to Bedouin for centuries, the health benefits of camel milk have caught international attention. Slightly pungent and salty in taste, its lower in fat and more vitamin-rich than cows milk. Restaurants have also started to put camel dishes on their menus, although its not traditionally an Emirati staple.

Best Cheap Eats

Empty tables are as rare as hens teeth at this unfussy curry temple with sidewalk seating.

All manner of people fill this cool been-here-forever Iranian kebab joint.

Sit on the floor Bedouin-style for a cutlery-free classic Yemeni feast.

Best Emirati Food

Casual cafe that serves modern Emirati cuisine from breakfast to dessert.

Successfully bridges traditional and contemporary Emirati food and decor.

This traditional spot is an ode to Emirati culinary heritage.

Best Middle Eastern

Makes fluffy falafel and some of the best kunafa (vermicelli-like pastry soaked in syrup) in town.

Lebanese street-food staples in an urban indoor setting.

Best Indian

Michelin man Vineet Bhatia seduces diners with contemporary spins on Indian classics.

Unassuming neighbourhood charmer delivers a taste-bud tingling culinary journey to Goa.

Spicy budget curries are the currency at one of Dubais oldest Indian eateries.

Best Vegetarian

Dont let the unassuming decor put you off the all-veg Indian food is tops.

Serves Sattvic food that not only eschews meat but also oil, onion and garlic.

Top Tips for Dining Out

Make weekend bookings, including Saturday brunch, for top tables at least a week ahead. Note that only licensed hotel restaurants and independent venues may serve alcohol.

Bar Open

Dubai may be famous for glam clubs, but its also developing a more low-key underground scene. Dubais weekend nights are busiest, when party animals let off steam in bars and on the dance floor. Alcohol is served in hotels and some licensed venues only.
