This is still hard for me to believe but here I am older possibly wiser but - photo 5

This is still hard for me to believe, but, here I am older, possibly wiser (but probably not), and much like the Empire, Im striking back! You wouldnt think that there are so many people who like making and eating fictional food. Even with the giant geek pride boom were all lucky enough to exist in, its still a niche within a niche. And yet, here we are! Theres enough of us that some crazy people let me make another cookbook.

Striking back is the official unofficial theme of this cookbook. With so many geeky classics getting reboots, remakes, adaptations, prequels, sequels, reimaginings, and whatever else you can possibly think of, I found myself stumbling on a lot of recipes that may be making a comeback. Theres a lot to be excited and nostalgic about Excited to be nostalgic? If theres not a word for that already, someone should make that word.

Those of you who are familiar with my previous cookbook, or my blog, will probably already know that things get a little weird. Weird is just what happens when youre trying to create sometimes reality-defying fictional food. Were boldly going where no cook has gone before, and I have my own Prime Directive, and General Orders 2 and 3, to help me navigate that. Here they are:

I must try to do the fans and the media creators justice by making the recipes as accurate as possible.

I must try my best to keep things simple and avoid overly complicated methods and overly rare and/or expensive ingredients.

I must try to make the end product taste good. Or, if its not necessarily supposed to taste good, I must try to at least make it edible.

Thankfully, Im more Starfleet than Jedi, so try is acceptable. Its not always easy or even possible to balance these goals, and attempting to balance them equally can make the recipe suffer, but I do my best. I try.

So, thank you to the readers for being supportive of this endeavor. Thats everyone who has followed the blog and everyone who bought, read, borrowed, or shared the first cookbook, too. Especially those of you who were kind enough to tweet, post, and pin about it. I never dreamed that my blog would become one cookbook, let alone two, and you are to thank for that. Or blame, depending on your opinion of this cookbook. Also, while Im doing thank-yous, a big thanks to the creators of the works referenced in this book. I have nothing but love, respect, and adoration for you. Maybe a little obsession, too, if were being honest.

But seriously, what are you still doing here? Does anybody actually read these introductions? I guess if anybody does, its probably us geeks. But, still, its time to move on. Go forth and cook!

You know, Ive been doing this fictional food stuff for almost nine years, and something I have noticed is that a lot of fictional foods are desserts, soups, or alcoholic beverages. Whats up with that? It probably speaks to the inner psyche of the human mind or something.

To simplify things, Im going to go ahead and put some reoccurring prep recipes here. You can also feel free to use premade versions of these, or your own recipes. Ill also add a few vegan substitute suggestions for all the Vulcans out there.

Pie dough is intimidating and, honestly, sometimes buying a premade one from the store is totally worth it. However, if you are willing to spend the time and energy to make a superior homemade crust, this recipe will do the trick.

Single Crust

1/ cups (155 g) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

Generous pinch salt
