PREFACE
A funny thing happened to the U.S. military on the way to the postCold War drawdown. The armed forces ended up with more "weekend warriors" than full-time, active-duty people.
Always an important contributor to the nation's wartime force, the men and women of the reserves and National Guard are increasingly being called away from their homes and families to deal with global hot spots.
Reservist's Money Guide is designed to help them make sense of a bewildering array of programs, benefits, and payments that have a direct impact on their financial well-being.
The language is simple, jargon-free English. The organization is straightforward. Who gets what? Is it taxable? What are the typical glitches affecting eligibility? Can it be earned for weekend drill periods or two-week summer training camps?
Our focus is on the men and women of all of the reserve componentsArmy Reserves, Naval Reserves, Air Force Reserves, Marine Corp Reserves, Coast Guard Reserves, Army National Guard, and Air National Guardplus their families.
