Can You Dehydrate Eggs?
Yes Mariana, you can dehydrate eggs, and I believe you cando this safely at home by scrambling the eggs first (don't add anything tothem), heat gently until cooked through, then dehydrate the eggs. Of course, aneasier way is to simply buy dehydrated eggs! Recommended site to buy dehydratedeggs: HoneyvilleFarms
"How do I dehydrate eggs?" asks Scott...
Hi Scott, I believe a safe way to dehydrate eggs is to firstscramble them as mentioned above. Do not add any seasoning or milk. Thendehydrate the eggs. If you're not lucky enough to have your own layingchickens, then another good alternative is to purchase already-dehydrated eggsfrom HoneyvilleFarms
Sharon in NSW, Australia asks: I bought Mylar Bagssize 11.75 inch x 13.5 inch or: 30cm x 34.5cm. Would the 300cc Oxygen Absorbersbe suitable to use for this size?
Hi Sharon! Thanks for writing in, all the way from Australia:-) Yes, your 300cc oxypacks are just fine for the size of Mylar bags youhave bought. The 100cc oxypacks are for the small(er) food-vacuum sealer bagsthat actually hold the food. The big 2000cc oxypacks are for the buckets and air-tightbins.
Regarding the Mylar bags. How do you seal them? Doesit have a self-seal method or do you seal it on your clear bag sealer (mine isa Food Saver) - Thanks, Mary
Hi Mary, thanks for writing in! You seal your Mylar bags onthe Food-Saver, using the 'seal only' function because we don't draw air out ofthe Mylar bags. The Mylar bags are to hold several packages together safely outof air, light, and moisture. Cheers, Susan.
Why do you have to vacuum seal your food first beforeputting in Mylar bags? Would it be ok to skip that step and just put food inthe Mylar bad with an O2 absorber? Thanks for any help.
Hello Cathy, thanks for taking time to write in. There arethree enemies to the longevity of food: air, light, and moisture.
First, to eliminate the air and moisture, we dehydrate thefood (to remove moisture). Secondly, we vacuum-seal the food to remove the air. It's at the vacuum-seal stage that we add the oxygen absorber in the bag withthe food to make sure that any oxygen remaining in the vacuum-sealed bag is absorbed!
The "light" part of the enemy-equation is takencare of by the Mylarbags. Not only do they keep out sunlight, they are pretty darned tough(tear-resistant) to boot.
