Early recovery is a stressful time. It can also be confusing because of the unfamiliar words and phrases that are commonly used in recovery groups. Organized alphabetically, the addictionary is a comprehensive resource that defines hundreds of recovery terms. The authors provide clear, in-depth definitions that demystify the language of recovery, address a variety of recovery issues, and focus on addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling, food, sex, and codependency. Special features include definitions grouped by themes and a directory of recovery groups and organizations.

Introduction
How to Use This Book
This is a recovery manual for anyone interested in recovery from addiction to alcohol, drugs, food, overeating, purging, starving, gambling, sex, tobacco, exercise, work, relationships, codependency, or any other addiction or its effects. It is for addicts, for family and others concerned about addicts, or for therapists who work with all of these people.
Topics, or modules, are arranged alphabetically to make them easy to use for ongoing recovery. Whether in crisis or just working a recovery program, turn directly to a relevant module. At the end of each module are names of other modules that may help. If you are looking for a topic that does not have its own module, look at the index and you will find a place to start.
Individuals, therapists, and programs can also use this book as a textbook. We have supplied some "Addictionary Paths" for those wishing to set up a logical sequence for a thorough study of addiction recovery.
Sharing Recovery
We wrote this book as a way to share what we have learned through many years of treating all kinds of addiction, researching information for the Eating Disorders Digest, and in gratitude for our own recovery as both food addicts and alcoholics. You may also want to use this book to help share recovery with those you sponsor or others who need help with their recovery. We want to acknowledge a few of those who have contributed, whether they knew it or not, to make this book possible. They include (alphabetically): Leigh Cohn, Kathy Evans, Lindsey Hall, Ernest Kurtz, Julie Leavitt, John Lovern, Carol Price, Jean Fox Pritchett, Fr. Bob Skeris, Rozanne
