Appreciation To Grandma, Gram, Granny, Mimi and Nonna...thanks for all the recipes, memories and love! Cheryl Gray Warrenton, MO Recently I came across my moms handwritten recipe for coffee cake. Sometimes, if we had a snow day from school, Mom would make it for my brother and me. Its wonderful aroma filled the house.

It is one of the few recipes I can make that taste just like Mom used to make. 1 c. raisins 2 c. boiling water 4 c. sugar 1-1/2 t. cinnamon 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 t. salt 2 t. baking soda 2 c. buttermilk Combine raisins and boiling water. buttermilk Combine raisins and boiling water.

Sprinkle reserved topping over batter. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes, or until cake tests done with a toothpick inserted in the center. Cool for about 10 minutes; remove from pan. Serve immediately, or wrap in aluminum foil. May be frozen. To serve, cut into slices.
