Acknowledgments
The seed for this book was planted in 1976, on the occasion of my first prolonged stay in the United States. My good friend Eddie Boyd, who had made Europe his home a little over ten years before, had provided me with a list of names and telephone numbers which opened many doors for me. At the time, I conducted a large number of interviews for a book I was writing on the life of the late Earl Hooker; Earl was an astounding guitar player himself, and quite naturally the name of B. B. King would often crop up in the conversations I had with Chicago musicians.
