Regulation and Organizations Modern societies are dominated by debates - photo 1
Regulation and Organizations

Modern societies are dominated by debates concerning the regulation of businesses and professional groups. Written by distinguished international experts, this volume provides readers with a broad range of theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of regulation, including sociological, economic and management perspectives. In particular, it examines the nature of regulation, its evolution in specific sectors and its impact on social and economic equality. Topics covered include:

  • governance in the European financial sector
  • insider trading and price-sensitive information in the UK stock exchange
  • the development of regulatory bodies and regulated companies in UK retail banking and insurance companies
  • the evolution of network industries in Europe
  • regulation of retail financial services, money laundering and the accountancy profession.

By providing a significant contribution to a relatively untouched area, Regulation andOrganizations will be a valuable resource to academics and researchers within the fields of business and management, economics, politics and sociology.

The European Science Foundation is an association of fifty-six member research - photo 3

The European Science Foundation is an association of fifty-six member research councils, academics and institutions devoted to basic scientific research in twenty countries. The ESF assists its member organizations in two main ways: by bringing scientists together in its scientific programmes, networks and European research conferences to work on topics of common concern; and through the joint study of issues of strategic importance in European science policy.

The scientific work sponsored by ESF includes basic research in the natural and technical sciences, the medical and biosciences, the humanities and social sciences.

The ESF maintains close relations with other scientific institutions within and outside Europe. By its activities, ESF adds value by cooperation and coordination across national frontiers and endeavours to offer expert scientific advice on strategic issues.

This volume arises from the work of the ESF Scientific Programme on European Management and Organizations in Transition (EMOT). Further information on ESF activities can be obtained from:
