Nan D. Hunter is an associate professor of law at Brooklyn Law School. She is the founder and former director of the ACLU AIDS Project and the ACLU Lesbian and Gay Rights Project, as well as a former staff attorney with the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project. She has litigated extensively in the federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, on issues involving the First Amendment, privacy, church-state relations, and civil rights. She is the author of numerous articles in the areas of gender, sexuality, and reproductive rights.
Sherryl E. Michaelson is an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California* and an adjunct assistant professor of law at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. She was formerly an adjunct assistant professor of law at New York University School of Law. She served for three years as an officer in the United States Air Force. While in private practice, she litigated major lesbian and gay rights cases as a cooperating attorney with Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund and the ACLU Lesbian and Gay Rights Project, and she has been active in community lesbian and gay rights organizations.
Thomas B. Stoddard is the executive director of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, the nation's oldest and largest legal organization dedicated specifically to the rights of lesbians and gay men, and an adjunct associate professor of law at New York University School of Law. He previously served as the legislative director of the New York Civil Liberties Union and in that capacity helped to write, among other measures, the New York City ordinance outlawing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. He has written and spoken extensively on civil rights and civil liberties, especially as they relate to lesbians, gay men, and people with HIV disease.
