Introducing Firefly Lane
I T IS SOMETIME IN 1974, IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST when Kate Mularkey finds a new girl in their neighborhood. The fact that Tully Hart easily becomes popular in their school makes Kate think that she is the coolest girl she has ever met. Kate is the modest type, almost traditional compared to Tully, who oozes self-confidence and stunning beauty. So being Kates exact opposite, it surprises her when Tully comes to her and confides in her after an incident at a party. Despite the fact of being two different individuals with entirely different backgrounds, they find themselves making a promise of forever friendship at the Firefly Lane. The journey of the two begins and before the summer ends they become the inseparable Tully and Kate.
Kate, being the shy and conventional teen, learns and discovers new things with the help of Tully. They envy each other covertly; Tully on Kate for having a perfect family who loves her dearly, and Kate on Tully for being beautiful, popular, and carefree. This jealousy makes them connect strongly to each other and depend on the bond they have established. They share everything in life and never seek friendship with others. They stick together all the way up to college, until an opportunity to work at a certain broadcasting television network lands on their way.
Then the two met Johnnythe irresistibly handsome boss who is obviously enamored with Tully but will later impregnate and marry Kate, who is already in love with him from the first time she saw him. The secret jealousy between the two women builds up despite Tully making her own name on Seattle television as how she wants to see herself in the future, and Kate achieving her real dream of becoming a wife and mother.
An act of betrayal comes to test the strength of their friendship, and the tie they both once knew eventually frays. Months go by without their hearing from each other, but it is not until a tragedy that physically ends the inseparable Kate and Tully.
