A CKNOWLEDGMENTS
This project would not have been possible without the splendid cooperation of our contributors. We were greatly saddened by the passing of our contributor, Professor Robert Baldwin. This volume carries the last piece that he wrote, and it displays the same intellectual verve and clarity for which he won the respect of economists and non-economists alike. While his passing will be an irreplaceable loss to the field, his work will continue to influence and inspire future generations of students and scholars.
We are also very grateful for the comments of three anonymous referees whose constructive and thoughtful comments contributed to several improvements in the project design and content. We thank the efficient and helpful team at Oxford University Press, and particularly Dominic Byatt for his enthusiastic support and efficiency, which were vital in all stages of the making of this volume.
This Oxford Handbook brings together the cooperation of a political scientist, a historian, and an economist. All three of us have had a penchant for interdisciplinarity, and this volume provided us with a unique and special opportunity to join the forces of the three disciplinary approaches and apply them to a shared puzzle. Working on this project together has been an intellectual treat for us. We hope that the readers will enjoy the end product as much as we enjoyed the process.
