I can remember some of my teachers saying that Id be good for nothing when I left school. One of societys losers, they said. Well, I never did fit the mould but this is my fourth published book. Wow! Who knew I had it in me?
I know that many of you reading this right now will recall put-downs or feelings of worthlessness you experienced when other people judged you for being different. Inside the Medium is dedicated to all those people who have tried to put me down throughout my life because if it wasnt for them, I would not have found the strength to go this far. Those people inspired me to rise above their low opinions and to turn my life around, taking it in a positive direction. I thank them and I have forgiven them.
In saying that, I could not have reached the happy place Im in now without the support of my friends and family over the years. In my toughest times, my friends have lifted me up, listened to me and embraced me. We all need good friends, and I am so grateful for the ones that have ended up walking with me through this life.
I would like to thank Erin McBride, my assistant and the organiser of my working life. It was Erin who reminded me about many of the stories I have shared in this book, and if it was not for her good memory I would have forgotten the punchlines. In our travels around the country and abroad, Erin and I have laughed, cried and enjoyed meeting all of you.
To Shane, Erins husband, thanks for understanding the stresses and issues that go with the job. You have a wonderful wife whom so many people adore. Good on ya, mate.
To my little daughter Jade, you have always made me laugh with your cute comments and adorable personality. You are my shining star, and you keep me motivated and inspired. I am so grateful for having such a bright spark for a daughter.
To my big boy Javan: If its meant to be, its up to me never forget that saying, my son. The world is your oyster, but only you can take the first step. You have grown up so fast and I am proud of you. Never give up; always be true to yourself and the sun will forever shine on you. Do what you love and it will all fall into place. And thanks for giving me those big JC hugs when I come home from my work trips they always make me feel good and remind me of the treasure I have in you.
When I look at my kids, I often think about those of you who have lost your children to the heavens. I remember your pain that I have seen, felt or heard through spirit, and it keeps me very real.
To the spirit people who have whispered in my ear and shared your journeys with me, I praise you for your courage. Your messages of love and support continue to amaze me.
Finally, I would like to say to you, my readers, that no matter how hard you get kicked in life, there is always light with you. Our loved ones in spirit carry us through the hard times, the heartbreaking times and the times when we think we cannot go on. The spirit, the angels and the heavenly father are always with us.
Keep your hearts open, forgive where you can and remember to stay calm for it was all planned out before you came here. Let it be.
Much love to you all,
Kelvin (KC) and spirit
Spirit never ceases to amaze me. Ive been communicating with dead people for a long time now, but I still get blown away all the time by readings I do. You would think Id get used to it, but no. I still think, Oh my God, where did that information come from? How could I have known that? Of course, I know where it comes from spirit. And still it makes me go, Wow.
A classic example is a reading I did for a Maori lady at one of my Soul Food shows in South Auckland. There were a lot of people from the spirit world wanting to talk to this lady and her two daughters, who were with her. In fact it was as if a mini-van full of people from the afterlife had pulled up and they all started pouring out.
Whoa fellas, wait up, I said. Strewth, this is too much; Im going to have to lock the van because theres too many of you.
So I visualised locking the van and concentrated on a few people who had come through, including a young guy.
He didnt give me a name, nor did he tell me how he died. He didnt want to go there. He said, Im her boy, and he wanted the family to know that he was okay.
A man was also there who had passed of cancer. Im a man of few words, just give them my love, he said.
Meanwhile, one of the daughters got a telling off from her grandfather in spirit, whom she had never met, for trying to control other people. I tell you, it was all happening in this reading. While all this was going on, a woman suddenly came in behind me.
Im the sister, she said, meaning the sister of the older lady. It was quite tricky working out who was related to whom, there were so many of them.
