This book is dedicated to my dear friend, Mark Jones, who
suddenly and unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord
as I was putting the finishing touches on this manuscript.
While beginning a book titled Fun on such a somber note
may seem unusual, Marks life was fully lived, and this tragic
loss is a reminder that we must indeed carpe diem.
CONTENTS
I still remember not just the day but the moment I first met Joel Comm. It was at a conference in San Diego, at an event for speakers. This man, whom I had never met (or admittedly, even heard of) before, approached me with an extended hand and a smile and said how much he enjoyed and appreciated my work. We instantly bonded (well, at least I did) when he started sharing stories of going to Disneyland when he was five years old and of returning as an adult. (I intentionally put adult in quotes, because acting like an adult is all relative, isnt it? But Ill get to that in a second.)
We quickly found that we had much more in common than simply being Disney fans. We both had very circuitous journeys and adventures getting from where we started to where we are now. (I was an attorney in New Jersey before following my passion for Disney and moving to Florida.)
The more I learned about Joel, both that evening and over the friendship that grew from it, the more I liked him. He told every story enthusiastically with wide-eyed excitement on his face. And one thing I believe helped create a bond between us was that we were both in the same place. I dont mean in the same business, but in how we went about doing it.
Joel and I both do what we love full-time. Its not just our job or businessits our lifestyle. Its our passion. Its our philosophy. Its who we are. But more importantly, we dont just have the privilege, blessing, and ability to do what we love and have our passion be our profession, but we have fun while doing it.
