I am grateful for this opportunity to acknowledge the chain of the teachings through the teacher. Yogi Bhajan, whose outpouring of practical, spiritual wisdom is beyond measure of value, has been a great source of inspiration for me and has consistently and unremittingly pointed the way to awakened consciousness and the discovery of God within and without.

Some of the material in this book is based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan in reference to the ten Spiritual Bodies and a system for interpretation of the date of birth; any misrepresentations are my own responsibility. The presence of additional material is the outcome of my extended research and is not felt to be in conflict with Yogi Bhajans teaching. My descriptions of the numbers in relation to the ten Bodies and their positions are a summary of my own experience and observations.

The material in this book has been put together thanks to the encouragement and instruction of several other teachers; the Chinese Master who will not be named but, amongst other things, helped me deepen my understanding of the numbers in relation to the elements and the different grid arrangements and the many students who continue to teach me in various ways. My thanks also to my extended family who keep me down to earth and to the mystical poet Guru Naanak whose words and sacrifice keep my spirit exalted.

Finally my appreciation to all at O Publishing, especially John Hunt, for recognizing the value of the material and taking the risk and a special thanks to Maat Barlow for dedicating endless hours to editing the material.

The fulfiller of wishes

With numbers I can have

More or less

By virtue of the nine

I can be near or far

By the magic of numbers

I believe I am high

Or low

I can make a wish

And count my blessings

Numbers are the stepping stones

To cross the difference between

What we are

And what our soul aspires to be

When a wish is a command

Then numbers will direct

The genie will change shape

And the mirror of empty time

Gives you

What you want

Beware

There is no secret to knowing numbers, they are themselves the secret. Numbers are the formula of all formulas and the rule behind the rule, the spiritual ground of our very existence. Life has its problems and applied numerology is a unique solution. Numbers are seen as a problem until we understand them, then they become the means to solutions. Every problem has its numbers and when you know the numbers of the problem you are half way to solving it. Solutions are basically formulas that tell you how to put together the numbers in such a way as to find the answers to your questions.

Intuitively we can sense that there is something to numbers. They have a strong potential although we do not know what it is. Yet it is more common to be skeptical about the idea of numbers determining or even influencing the course of events or our personal nature. Given the conflict between our fear of and desire for freedom, as well as our fears of being controlled and our need to believe we are in control, this is quite understandable, but lets reflect on a few things.

There is one God and this number influences everything. If you had one eye your view of the world would be different enough to determine how you lived your life. Likewise if you had three legs, eight nostrils, or any other strange combination of limbs and sense organs, then your whole experience of reality would be modified. The numbers on the money in your pocket decide what you can and cannot buy, as do the number on your credit cards. Even in the times before money existed, exchanges required numbers so many pigs for so many sacks of peanuts. The number on your passport may prevent you getting out of the country or it may allow entry into foreign lands. People get in touch with you by the number on your door or your telephone number. You know your age because you know the numbers of your date of birth.

If we go on listing all the areas of our life where numbers provide the base we will find that there is not much left untouched by number. Numbers are the origin of and foundation for the development of many fields of human endeavour and research. Every philosophy, every political, social and philosophical system and every culture is built on the same backbone; number is their common ingredient.

Here are some examples:

10 sephiroth of the Kabala, 10 Spiritual Bodies.

9 treasures, 9 initiations, 9 virtues.

8 limbs of yoga, 8 spokes on the wheel of dharma.

7 chakras, 7 steps to heaven or hell, 7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 soul types.

6 sides to the dice.

5 elements, 5 senses, 5 passions, 5 types of thought.

4 boons, 4 directions, the 4th state (neutrality), the 4 noble truths of Buddha.

3 qualities of energy in the world, 3 dimensional space, the Hindu and Christian trinities and others.

2 polarities of male/female relations yin and yang.

1 soul, 1 God, 1 spine, 1 tongue.

The numbers are like a coat hanger upon which we hang the decorative ingredients that make each one appear different. The common altar, the common language that all people bow to is number. In other words, numbers talk and in spite of all the arguments about quality, it is quantity that impresses the most since even most qualitative differences are measured in number. The truth is that we are not free until we consciously recognize, accept, and agree to the utter hopelessness and predictability of the human creature. Then on the level of the common spiritual ground of number anything is possible.

Numbers are a universal language. They cross all boundaries and have no standard expression but can be expressed in countless ways and through countless forms or symbols. Numbers are holistic in the sense that they illuminate the unity of the diversity. Furthermore, numbers are holographic in the way that, no matter the scale of our study, the same number patterns will be found in all fields of inquiry.

In order to work with numbers effectively we need to consider the nature of numbers themselves. Generally we may only know them through their material expression. The essence of number, however, is discovered by focusing on the twoness or threeness of things rather than on the content. For example, to know what is the same about five birds, five pens, and five people would be to know the fiveness. The number is the unchanging common essence amongst a world of changing appearances.

Our spiritual and material lives begin to converge when we let the world become transparent and tune into the invisible presence of the numbers. It means going beyond our normal rational way of thinking. We fear this step into abstraction, imagining it to be a complex problem. In truth it is a courageous return to break through the surface and rest again in the elementary, the simple.

Applied numerology is the activity of decoding the signs on the map of life. Then, knowing the first principles, you can transform your life and become a conscious 10-in-1 being. You can touch the central fiber of reality by the study of ordinary, everyday life through attention to the numbers. With practice you can discover these basic properties of the numbers. You will come to appreciate how they stand as the vibrational essence of all your practical, moral, and philosophical existence, both in the world around you and at the core of your being.

True numerology is not about quick fix solutions, fortune telling, winning the lottery, or finding your lucky number. Yet knowledge of number is a lifelong jewel that you can refer to again and again. By this study you will know the building blocks to a sustainable ecology of consciousness. If you try to understand them from a solely rational position then you will find it difficult to really hear what is being shared. Applied numerology asks you to make a different step so that the material in this book becomes a working manual rather than another piece of information that weighs you down. Numbers are light; it is our projections that make them seem heavy.
