INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of astrology!

If you wanted to escape from a desert island, would you set your boat afloat and start paddling to freedom when the tide is coming in? Hopefully not! It would be more favorable to time your escape for when the tide is going out, preventing the unnecessary work of battling against the waves, and instead pulling you out into the ocean by virtue of the seas ebb. Similarly, understanding and following the astrological tides creates a wonderful way to live more fully and joyfully, creating ease and success through flowing in harmony with the natural rhythms of the Universe.

In a very broad sense, astrology is the search for human meaning in the sky, achieved through understanding the influence of planets and other celestial bodies on our lives. It seeks to interpret and intentionally utilize the effects of their movements on human experience. This includes considerations such as their positions in relation to each other as they orbit through space and the 12 signs of the zodiac. If you are reading this book, you probably already know your own Sun sign, which relates to the Suns position in space on the day you were born.

The Importance of Astrological Rhythms

What I have seen from doing thousands of astrology readings and teaching hundreds of thousands of people about astrology over the past couple of decades, both in person and online through my blogs and YouTube channels, is that every heavenly body in the cosmos has notable effects on us. To roll with the natural rhythms instead of against them, you just need to have some basic knowledge of astrology and a practical system for addressing the multiple factors involved. While the art of astrology is quite complex, there are some factors that are easily accessible for everyone. In this book, it is my mission to take what I have discovered through my own extensive research about aligning with astrological timings and to make this accessible to both the absolute beginner and the professional teacher alike.

Even those who dont believe in astrology will admit that during the Full Moon, something very obvious happens people go crazy! Ask any law enforcement officer or hospital employee, and you will find how many have noticed that the incidence of crazy things increases at the Full Moon. It usually makes sense to people that the Moon would affect us on Earth, because the Moon governs tides and, as we contain a high amount of water ourselves, we are also notably affected by the shifting gravitational pulls of the Moons cycles.

The truth is that we are affected by the movement of all the heavenly bodies, whether we realize this or notand those planets closest to Earth exert the most easy-to-recognize and consciously-felt effects on us.

Meet the Personal Planets

The focus in this book will be on the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. These are the heavenly bodies that lie closest to Earth and their orbits have the greatest influence on our physical drives as human beings. They are therefore collectively known as the personal planets or inner planets. (Astrologers call the Moon and the Sun planets even though technically they are not.)

Each planet is an information system that transmits and receives particular energies from the solar system and beyond, creating its own unique language of associations and meanings. When we understand that language, we can decipher the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual symptoms that are trying to show us the roadmap to healing and making our lives the best possible. Planetary cycles likewise bring unconscious factors into the conscious domain for us to work with and heal.

Each planet has a rhythm and an orbit that neatly fits within the orbits of the other planets. As they orbit through space, they transit the zodiac and form connectionsor aspectswith the positions of the planets as they appear in a horoscope or birth chart (also known as a natal chart), which maps the position of the planets at a fixed point in time, such as our birth. In this way, the personal planets communicate to us on the topics that they rule and the signs they move through. The cycles of their transits may evoke in us ancestral remembrances and unconscious patterns, bringing these to life in our outer worlds and inner experience. Each planets movement and natural rhythm tends to bring certain things to the forefronts of our lives, showing the coherence and natural alignment of both our individual lives and the perfection inherent in the Universe.

Contrary to what I hear people say sometimes, the transits and cycles of the planets do not occur in order to torture us! They are seeking to bring to our awareness those qualities that lie hidden within us, but which might be hard to access without the encouragement of the transit. You can choose to reframe any mischief that comes up as a valuable friend in your healing process, as it will show you exactly where you are flowing in sync with the natural rhythm of the Universe and exactly which areas need attention for you to sync up with it.

). Understanding these phases and consciously aligning with them can help prevent unnecessary issues, explain situations that come up and what to do with them, and assist greatly in planning as we can use our awareness of these cycles well ahead of time.
