Everybodys had their fair share of challenges and problems while navigating the treacherous waters linked to the Pandemic. Its during these difficult times that its so critical to learn the necessary skills to not only overcome whatever life throws at you, but to stay ahead and prosper. Contrary to the stereotype, prosperous people didnt just get lucky. Theyve had the same or more problems and challenges. They are normal people who dont give up when problems occur, they use them as fuel to succeed and prosper. They know what they want and go after it regardless of any challenges that occur along the way. They are no different to you and me. They just know that setbacks are temporary, that theres always a way forward. They decisively make some tough decisions correctly and fast. They overcome all the odds, in spite of any and all difficulties. Elon Musk is the perfect example that has risen from the ashes repetitively to become worlds richest man.
This book teaches the importance of never giving up. Pat is someone who has had to overcome many challenges from early childhood. Each time, hes risen stronger and better. But only because he is continually updating and renewing his skills and knowledge, and never lets anything get in the way of what he truly wants. He claims always to have a book in his briefcase, and that if anyone catches him without one, they will be given a thousand dollars in cash. Obviously, I hope it is one of my 312 books. Next time you see Pat at a conference, see if you can catch him out! My bet is that it will be a fruitless exercise.
Pat is Mr. Positivity. He maintains his positivity in good times and bad times. He believes that any bad situation is not a full stop it is an ellipsis. Theres always somewhere to go, something to do to improve the situation. And if, in the depths of despair, you cant see the path, Pat will happily shine a light and find one. Along the way he makes it brighter and better for all who have the courage to follow his leadership and determination and drive to even better destinations.
Those who have been lucky enough to see Pat speak, know that I am right about this he tells stories that you wouldnt believe if you didnt know him. Pat has found himself in situations where a lot of people would have given up, though there he is, forging ahead. Since Ive known him, his message has always been the same: Know what you want, and with the right mindset, youll get there regardless of any crisis, setbacks and challenges.
Another of Pats points with which I passionately agree, is the idea that in order to get where you want to be, you must help others get what they want. Pat and his family are first-class philanthropists. They are responsible for feeding 6,000+ mouths in the third world. They have all they need and share the rest with people less fortunate than themselves. This is something more people in the world need to learn. We are all in this together, so why not help each other out?

Whilst my life has been full of triumphs and tragedies, my experiences arent unique. For many of us, Ronan Keatings hit song Life is a Rollercoaster rings true. Lifes like that. We cant ignore that. But wouldnt it be great to be able to bounce back after every challenge? Better still, wouldnt it be great to be able to bounce back higher every time?
Ive experienced many successful years. Ive sold over half a million copies of my books. Ive been on national television programs on a weekly basis. Ive sold hundreds of thousands of my own training programs. Ive been booked as a speaker a year in advance. Ive spoken to audiences totaling over 300,000 a year all over the world: in the USA, the UK, Australia and Asia. I was the director of one of Australias most successful residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres. I pioneered one of Australias largest youth organisations in the state of New South Wales in Australia. I have helped build one of the worlds greatest churches in Sydney. Ive experienced success in ways that people only dream of.
Ive also experienced many defeats and failures. Ones that seriously jeopardized my career, took away friendships, and worst of all broke up my family. One day I was standing before a crowd of 80,000 people, the next day I was revealed as a failure to some of my closest friends and family. One day I was the shining example of success, the next day the media in Australia would label me a failure. On several occasions people have told me that my life as I knew it was all over. The frightening thing about experiencing lows is that no matter what others can say during these times whether theyre positive or negative It can be hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Ive spent nights laying in bed thinking, I dont want to live anymore! I didnt want to face another day, mainly because I couldnt see the purpose of another day. Ive felt the shame of failure suffocate me of any ounce of self-esteem I had.
Ive seen my world come crashing down around me. A series of resulting phone calls and meetings have caused my life to plummet from success mode to frantic mode. Ive sometimes tried very hard to fix things to only end up making things worse. I know the feeling of being in the middle of a nightmare from which I cant wake up. A series of events have caused my 2 marriages to end, some of my businesses to fold, some of my friendships tested, and my sources of income dry up. Like a tired boxer battered and bruised, Ive been out for the count on several occasions.
Ive also had days filled with hope. You see, as painful as some of my experiences have been, there has been feelings of relief sharing my tragedies and baring my soul with friends. Pressures easing. Light beginning to glow in the darkness, like the sounds of morning stirring through my nightmares. That wonderful experience of healing and restoration.
My friend, I have learned that when your world falls apart, you still have options. One option is to let your life disintegrate and crumble at your feet. The other option is to pick yourself up and start again. Ive discovered that its not what is taken from us that counts, its what you do with what is left that makes the difference. Sometimes things are taken from us, and sometimes we simply drop the ball. Ive dropped the ball and Ive dropped the ball big time. Through my own failures I lost it all.
