Foreword

For the last few years, whenever Dan Candell is introduced, people are often surprised that hes been working with hypnosis for more than half his life (and yes, he started when he was about 12)! In comparison, Ive been practicing longer than Dans entire life and as his beard starts to gray, I may admit to that less often, but it gives us a good point to play on when were teaching together or speakers at the same event. Its probably those years of head-start that put me in the honored position of being Dans mentor and business coach, and Im proud to say hes also a student, colleague and friend. Despite the difference in years, we share a lot of similarities in our experience and how we approach this profession.

Before taking any formal training, I learned at the side of my mentor while he was working with large groups (hundreds of participants), corporate gigs, doing TV talk shows and radio (on a regular circuit), private practice, writing, speaking, and stage hypnosis. This became my standard of what a hypnosis practice was supposed to be. After my initial certification, I went on to take courses from many of the other greats, was fortunate to earn a doctoral degree in hypnosis when there was one available, and began immediately giving back to my profession as an instructor, innovator and mentor.

Part of what Dan and I have in common is that we are always learning, and we both look for patterns and create systems. Thats really how Dan came into my focus, when he was taking my HypnoCoach Certification course, I mentioned that I take on a few people for private mentoring, and he immediately applied. I suspect that he recognized the detail, structure and system that he was learning in my trademarked signature course, and knew we were kindred spirits.
