Extreme poles of suggestibility
Going too far
Introduction
He looms above her, his presence powerful, a shadow over her. She's not new to kinky play. She has been restrained before with soft ropes and leather straps. Back then there was an exhilaration in powerlessness; in being bound in a way that allowed for no struggle.
This is different. This is a new kind of restraint - A restraint of the mind.
You cannot move your arms, he says, his voice seeming to echo in her head. You may try to move them. Try...you will find you cannot. They feel too heavy, leaden.
It's true and for a moment there is real panic in her mind. How the fuck does he do this to her? She's not some helpless victim, she's a strong person. Far from weak-minded, she has always thought of herself as particularly smart, imaginative. But that very imagination is working against her. She cannot move her arms and the feeling is scary and surreal.
He is telling her not to be afraid now, to let herself sink into it, and describing the unfolding of her pleasure. That too is real. She feels her body responding physically. Her arms are rigid; her legs pinned in place by invisible chains. His voice is not harsh, but commanding and relentless. She is open. He tells her that she is going to orgasm and only in the few seconds before it happens does she realize it's true. She feels herself clench, teetering on the edge, as his voice falls over her.
If you bought this book you probably have some idea of what erotic hypnosis might entail. Maybe it looks like the scene above, or perhaps entirely different.
Over the years we've had a lot of reactions when we talked to people across the country about hypnosis and kinky play. Some had no idea that such a thing was possible. Others told us that they didn't believe in hypnosis, (silly...it's an established fact) or that it was all in the head, (while true enough, isn't all eros?). Weve even had a few people tell us that it was unethical or bad, though they seemed to lack any real understanding of what hypnosis was or what one might do with it. In most cases, they had some idea that it was the mental equivalent of a date rape drug - something that would allow sinister abusers to prey on unwilling victims.
In some cases, they had seen ads or heard statements made by douchey dudebros, claiming that hypnosis could give power over other people through conversation. We had to explain that hypnosis on that level is no more than being charming, something all of us are more or less good at. Furthermore, we pointed out that if you were charmless enough to need a class in hypnosis to get people to agree to date you, we were, and remain, pretty certain the class wouldn't actually help. Let's be clear - this is not a book about seducing anyone, though it does have some good hints about how to conduct yourself and speak in a manner that others may find seductive by being honest, respectful, and considerate. This is a book on developing a very real skill set that you can add to your erotic repertoire
We've also had a lot of people tell us sadly that hypnosis doesn't work on them. In some cases, we performed a small demonstration to show it actually could, whereas in others we taught heir partners how to make it work. These people fell into the roughly half the population that does not respond classically to hypnosis, and the basic how-to-hypnotize courses or classes their partners had purchased focused only with people who were highly suggestible. Others insisted they were too strong-minded, intelligent, and imaginative. In those cases, we helped them understand they could be the best subjects for hypnosis. Its important to remember that, while hypnosis can be about a feeling of loss of control, it doesn't have to be.
She settled into herself, more comfortable. Her physical body did not reflect how she saw herself, the gender assigned to her at birth did not match the way that she or her partner saw herself. She was always amazed at the reality of it...reached down to touch herself. Her skin seemed supple, softer as she had always known it should be. Her partner reached out to touch her and the touch was different as well. She felt complete, whole as her partner moved to take her...
They lay together on the bed without moving, eyes closed. Movement might come later, but for now they were enmeshed in the reality they created together, speaking slowly one after the other. They were not human at all, but dragons, and they soared in a mating dance, necks entwined powerfully. What did human bodies matter when this passion was shared between them.
Hypnosis is about more than physical sensation. It can include the creation of lush mindscapes where fantasy is lived, can summon powerful emotions as easily as a movie or song. In the following chapters, we'll explore how to get from simple inductions to colorful experiences like these. You'll learn the simple, demonstrable, techniques that will allow you to present an engaging, erotic, experience.
Brett might have been a person somewhere, but that was a remote fact, filed away on some forbidden plane, inaccessible. At this moment she knew her name, knew how she looked. Brett's memory might have included every detail about the white-haired warrior princess she had watched so many hours on the screen. But that person was not present now. She could think back and recall scenes from her childhood - the hardships and sorrows she had endured. They were poignant and very real, immediate. She looked around and saw not a messy bedroom but a palace. Her partner was her lover of course, tall and powerful, and she focused on his words.
He had always wanted to fall into her, to have her take everything from him. He was clean now, adoring. She had everything from him, even his manhood and he touched the smooth place where it had been. He could think of little but her eyes, her scent. He wasn't worthy to touch her and he knew that she had reached into his mind and played on that. Perhaps if he were very good and devoted enough to her, endured the pain she offered him, she would release him from this dark place where he could see nothing, perhaps even let him use his manhood to worship her.
The problem with hypnotists
In Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz, the great and powerful Oz is a charlatan, operating machines from behind a screen. In the 1939 MGM version he classically attempts to head off discovery by commanding everyone to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, and of course they do nothing of the sort. He is eventually forced to admit he is just a balloonist from Omaha and has no magical powers at all.
