ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

E motional Intuition for Peak Performance is the culmination of seven years work, going all the way back to 2013. Unbeknownst to me, through the process of writing other worksespecially Fasting the Mind and Effortless Livingand dedicated practice of my own personal exercise regime and daily meditation, I discovered and created a book on how to cultivate skill and experience peak performance. When I first started teaching and writing about Eastern philosophy, I had no inkling that there was any connection to expert skill and peak performance. Nor did I consider how crucial understanding Eastern thought was for someone who wished to reach peak performance in their given skill. These are the sorts of mysterious paths you can end up in by leaving lifes door ajar for new possibilities to enter. And in any quest for reaching peak performance, although it may seem like a solitary endeavor, there are usually a lot of people to thank in the background who go unnoticed and deserve the utmost praise.

My wife, Gayoung, is someone I cannot express enough love and gratitude to for being in my life. From the day that we met until now, our love for each other has never wavered and has only become stronger. My life with you is a joy I once thought was never possible to experienceI am joyful every day, and that is because of you. My relationship with you is the main reason my work, including all of the books that I have written, flourishes. For this book, like all of my previous books, you were instrumental in the writing and editing process, sharing very important suggestions that contributed to making the book more comprehensive. My love for you cannot be expressed in words, but I will go ahead and tell you what I tell you every day: I love you.

To Thailand, the land of smiles, I owe a lot. In the last twelve years, I have mainly resided in Thailand, especially Chiang Mai. These have been some of the greatest years of my life, as I have written most of my books here and also lived a peaceful lifestyle that only somewhere like Thailand can facilitate. The Thai people and culture have been a positive influence in my life, which has allowed me to go deeper in my work. Emotional Intuition for Peak Performance was written in its entirety in a small (extremely hot) apartment in Chiang Mai.

One of the most amazing things I have discovered as a writer is that somehow I found the perfect publisher for my work. Words are inadequate to describe the love and appreciation I have for all of the wonderful people at Inner Traditions Bear & Company. It all begins with the wisest acquisition editor in the game, Jon Graham. Without you, Jon, none of my books would have had life breathed into them. You have always guided me in the right direction and taught me to be patient as an author. The body of work you have created in life has been in selfless service to others (authors), which should be praised and is something we can all learn from.

To the two editors of this book I owe a special debt of gratitude. First of all, I am extremely thankful to my copy editor, Jill Rogers. You made the editing process more fun than expected. Your humor and also praise for certain areas of the book were unexpected, but deeply appreciated and a welcome change. Your edit of this book was in line with the core philosophy of it; your emotional intuition was on point. Second, I cannot give enough heartfelt gratitude to my project editor, Meghan MacLean. Youve been there from the beginning, and every book has been a joy to work on with you. There are many superlatives I should shower you with, but the most amazing thing to me is that, as with my last book, you gave birth to another wonderful child during the process of editing this one. How you can meticulously edit a book and deal with authors while being pregnant is a skill that Im sure is hard for anyone to master. But you have, and since we are making a habit of this, I am expecting nothing different for my next book.
