Preamble

I have split this series into a trilogy and acompendium to enable a parent or guardian of any child who has just beendiagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to know enough to keep the child safeuntil he or she can find out more.

If you can afford the price of Dafydd Bach: Death of Innocence: The Compendium straight off, thenget it. It contains all you will probably need to know about these mentaldiseases to feel less uncomfortable about your limited knowledge regarding themat the moment.

If you cant afford it, and your child is under theage of eight, get Dafydd Bach: Death ofInnocence: The Beginning which is half the price and will tide you overuntil you can afford the second and third in the trilogy, Dafydd Bach: Death of Innocence: The Aftermath and Dafydd Bach: Death of Innocence: TheAppendix.

If your child is over the age of eight, you mayskip the first book, but you will need to bear in mind that much of the secondand third will not make much sense until you have also read the first, becausethese are genetic, incurable, life-long diseases, so you need to understandthem holistically.

It has taken me the best part of twenty years ofcoaching and counselling to acquire what Im about to tell you. Some of it isnasty and you will not like it, but a lot is good particularly finding I havea saint and hero inside this mortal coil of mine.

My Life of Autism and Aspergers Syndrome has beensuch an exciting white-knuckle ride of theme park, Planet Earth, that I wouldlove do it all over again - an epic life for an epic person. That is the kindof life both of us want for your child - epic. So, together, thats what we aregoing to ensure - and that will be epic too. Two epics for the price of one, isa great bargain.

You need to know immediately that kids with autismare very likely to consider suicide as a short, sharp exit from reality. I didmany times as a child, made a few very determined attempts, and pretty nearlysucceeded several times. However, I thought everybody does this at some timein their lives. That is because I have the theory of mind problem thatpsychiatrists tell us most auties and aspies have. So, how serious is this riskof suicide ideation, really?

Penn State University in America has recentlypublished results of research into the incidence of suicide ideation in thechildhood population that confirm my own anecdotal findings over the past 20years from my voluntary coaching and counselling practice. I figured the riskwas 25-30 greater in people with autism than in those without this illness. Inthe Penn State study, the figure was 28.

http://news.psu.edu/story/267913/2013/03/11/research/autistic-children-may-be-greater-risk-suicide-ideation-and-attempts

Since realizing 20 years ago that it was my autismthat caused me do it, Ive been coaching and counselling others like me,voluntarily in my own time and at my own expense initially through myprofessional networking, and subsequently using public and private world-wideinternet facilities. Consequently, I am aware that it is a global problem andapproaching epidemic proportions.

However, I am also aware that suicide is not theonly self-harming device they contemplate. They may resort to many other formsof extreme self-harm to gain the attention that they know they need but dontget from parents, peers, teachers and doctors. These include cuttingthemselves; head banging; face punching; wall and door punching, nail biting;medical overdosing; drug, alcohol and nicotine abuse; and, running away. Withthe advent of electronic social networking, they can discuss them in privatemessaging such as in Facebook and in open forums like Wrongplanet, without youhaving the slightest idea that they are doing it.

Indeed, running away is now so prevalent in Americathat the US Federal Government has announced that it will fund provision ofelectronic geographical positioning systems tracking devices for attaching tokids with autism. The release of federal GPS tracking funding comes on theheels of incidents where children have become lost by leaving their homes ortheir schools. While some children are eventually found unharmed, otherincidents have resulted in the deaths of children.

However, I am aware from my coaching andcounselling practice that a great many cases still disappear under the radar ofscientists and governments. I estimate that very probably, many hundreds ofthousands of auties and aspies that have run away because they have autism orthe autism spectrum disorder we call Aspergers Syndrome have never been foundalive, and may yet never be found at all.

Due to my desire for up-to-date information aboutresearch world-wide that might help me or my coaching and counselling clientsunderstand our mental conditions better, I have been receiving Google Alertsfor many years on my various computers using the Google search key wordsautism and asperger. Consequently I have seen and read numerous newspaperreports of deaths by accident (e.g., hit by a train), crime (e.g., raped andleft for dead), suicide (e.g., deliberately walked of the roof of a building),and natural causes (e.g., death by exposure to the elements). In virtually allof them, as my searches are for the key words autism and asperger thevictim is described as having autism and / or another autism spectrum disorderand / or Aspergers Syndrome.
