Introduction
Its a fine Sunday morning and youre up a little late than usual, because well, its your day off. Or maybe its the dreadful Monday morning at work and youre squinting your eyes at your computer screen, trying to make sense of whatever all those emails and documents are talking about when youre suddenly hit with a familiar churning feeling in your stomach that you always seem to be ignoring, and you ask yourself: Why am I working here? Is this all there is to life? Does my job have to be this tiring?
Most people start in life with big dreams and ambitions but end up reducing them as time goes on and as they learn the realities of life. Maybe, you are now at a point where you have completely given up on your dreams and lowered the expectations that you once had. Its alright, weve all been there. And lets be real, were only here to make money for a comfortable life; the problem is that we automatically assume that will bring us success and happiness, too. While that may be true to some extent, I believe its not possible to simply find happiness in jobs that arent meant for you, that you arent passionate about. Sure, you can get money from them and pay your bills, but for how long? How long until you finally get tired of it all? Well, youre right, some people live with their current jobs for their whole lives but, at some point, they would stop actively investing in their work and just do what they always do every single day like a programmed machine or a robot with no emotions. I know because I, too, have been there.
There are many people like you and me, and the problem with our work is simply our inability to understand the importance of connecting our passion with our work, our emotions with our jobs. Perhaps, one of the most common pieces of advice you hear when youre looking for a job or career to get yourself into is follow your passion and thats it. And because that phrase is so common, it has stopped carrying any meaning to it. Passion; the word might remind you of hobbies youve liked but probably wont pay your bills, and you think: Yeah, thatll make me happy but wont make me money . So, thats what you do you follow your passion all right, but only in your free time (if any) because youve stopped believing that your passion can bring you money and success which, in the end, are more important than your happiness, right? Alternatively, many people are caught up with the passion bug, waiting for passion to fall on them before they start their career or business. In the end, they end up with nothing. Zero results.
Or maybe you know what your passion is, you value it, youve strived for it, but it didnt get you anywhere, let alone pay your bills. Another possibility is that youve always had a passion for, say, being a painter but skills thats what you lack. You try and try, you fail and fail, and in the end, you realize you arent cut out for what youve always wanted to do. Thats okay, too. You dont always have to find a job through your passion, but you sure can connect them in one way or another. Success, in its purest form, does not rely on what you may have once wanted to achieve, but it can be small steps to a greater ideal. That is what this book is for; for you to find your way to the job you can love, a career you can cherish. And remember, if you resonate with any of the stories that I have depicted above, you are not alone.
It might sound impossible for you now, but it is possible to be excited about getting up in the morning to go to work, not have to walk like a zombie afterward, or be so sucked out of energy that you can hardly pick up your spoon to eat! You can enjoy your work as much as you enjoy your free time, and you deserve to. The good news is that its not even hard to achieve. All you have to do is identify your interests, your skills, your career and inject the big ole passion into it. But what if youve already begun your career and are so far into it that you cannot afford a complete change or shift to something else? Fret not, because I will also cover the topic of finding passion in the work you are already indulged in.
To discover your passion, you have to discover yourself the same goes for your skills. If you believe that you are also in the same boat with many Americans who hate their jobs, youre at the right place. Just because it is so common doesnt mean that you have to live your life that way too. You can get out, you can love your work, and you certainly can feel comfortable sitting at your workplace. Constant stress and worry are, albeit common, not normal when you are working for something you love. It is not impossible to find jobs you can like, to earn from what youve always loved doing, or to make money from your hobbies. I can say, from what I have experienced, that love can bring you wealth.
I, as someone who has been in your shoes for a part of my youth, am writing this book not only to help you find love and success in your life but will also provide my own experiences and struggles to produce the most realistic guide for you to learn about yourself and change your perspective for a better future. Coming from a middle-class family in India and having no acquaintances in the USA, I only wished to live a life of peace and success when I moved here at the young age of 21, not anticipating the hardships waiting to come my way. I, like many people out there, suffered a lot of failures and setbacks during the journey to follow my ambitions but, unlike many people, learned from them to shift my whole life around. Now, I want you to know that you can do it too.
Just like me, you dont have to give up and feel suffocated at your workplace. This book will contain everything you need to know and learn to achieve what you want in life, and to love what youre already doing. It is a guide that I have personally crafted for every single person who may be finding it hard to live the life they have always dreamed of, and it will not only help you, the readers but also me; for I have found a greater purpose through my past experiences and struggles: to help other people who might be stuck where I once was.
You might have come across many such books, claiming to show you hacks to success, and completely disregarding all the things that you need to achieve that. These books, most often, give instructions and advice assuming that you already have a set target in your mind, which is why most people end up living lives of misery and monotony. I know how awful it feels when you dont know what your passion is or whether youll ever be able to succeed in your passion. I hope to show you that you no longer must suffer through these thoughts. Each chapter in this book reveals a secret that leads to your success. The life-changing secret gets revealed in the last chapter.
