Greatness
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe. Anatole France
Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, youll get the wind knocked out of you. But if youre content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty. Jesus (Matthew 23:1112 THE MESSAGE )
If youre reading this book because you want to be rich and famous, youll be disappointed. Disappointed with this book, but also with your lifemoney and fame dont deliver.
Greatness is real. And possible. But its not what people sell you.
People will try to make you believe that greatness has something to do with the number of commas in your net worth, the number of bathrooms in your house, or the number of followers you have, socially. It doesnt. We all know people who are successful by these standards and yet, at the same time, are regretful, miserable, and unhappy.
Greatness is more than money, position, or power. Its elusive to many, but also strangely simple to obtainor, better, to embrace .
Greatness is two part:
1. Intrinsic: Given by God. Youre great because you were created in the image of the God of the universe. Bonus: Because you have Gods DNA, you have the creative gene. You have the capacity to create, add value, make better which brings us to the second part of greatness.
2. Extrinsic: Given by others. For something to be great, someone must ascribe value to it. For you to be great, you must add value to the lives of people around you, causing them to be grateful for you. That doesnt mean starting a billion-dollar companybut you might. It doesnt mean writing the next bestsellerbut you can. All it really means is that the world is better because you lived, loved, and cared.
