Brave, practical, and true, Liz shares her magical journey for anyone brave enough (and generous enough) to want to go on the journey of a lifetime.

I met Liz more than a decade ago in Gulu, Uganda. Beginner s Pluck is a thoughtful book about what Liz has been strategically doing in the world, not merely optimistically hoping for. Her authentic voice is one I trust because Ive seen what shes done. As you flip these pages, you wont want to be more like Liz. Instead, youll want to figure out what your next steps are to release your passions, hopes, and love into a world which is in desperate need of someone just like you to engage it.

Lizs words, full of wit and inspiration, felt as though my best girlfriend pulled me in close for a lesson in life. As if she were writing just to me and declaring, You are enough. Lizs honesty and candor about her journey of creating something bigger than herself are inspiring, practical, and life-giving.

My friend Sister Rosemary may be the Poster ChildCover GirlPatron Saint of Beginners Pluck. If my publisher would have okayed it, her face would be on the cover of this book. At a few inches shy of five feet tall, this Nike-sneaker-wearing Ugandan nun has enough pluck to last a lifetime.
Sister Rosemary directs a school called Saint Monicas, and during the height of the conflict in Northern Uganda, she sheltered children who were at risk of being kidnapped by the Lords Resistance Army. For years and years, every night she stood guard outside the gate of the school, armed against the rebel soldiers only with whispered prayers.
Saint Monicas is a place where girls come to rebuild, to heal and to belong. For girls who were not lucky enough to be protected from the rebel soldiers, it is the place where their broken and bruised bodies and spirits go to mend.
