Brave, practical, and true, Liz shares her magical journey for anyone brave enough (and generous enough) to want to go on the journey of a lifetime.

Seth Godin

I met Liz more than a decade ago in Gulu, Uganda. Beginner s Pluck is a thoughtful book about what Liz has been strategically doing in the world, not merely optimistically hoping for. Her authentic voice is one I trust because Ive seen what shes done. As you flip these pages, you wont want to be more like Liz. Instead, youll want to figure out what your next steps are to release your passions, hopes, and love into a world which is in desperate need of someone just like you to engage it.

Bob Goff , hon. consul for the Republic of Uganda and author New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody Always

I am SO VERY GLAD this book exists. We have long needed Lizs expert voice speaking into the minds of dreamers and doers, the ones who have the ideas and want to execute, and the ones who are exhaustedly executing. We want purpose in our day, and Liz does it with her life and teaches it here.

Annie F. Downs , bestselling author of Days to Brave and Remember God

Witty and full of brilliant insight, Liz Bohannon delivers a much-needed antidote to a Western mindset careening between youthful entitlement and shame/fear-based inertia. Most of us who dream to be extraordinary have never learned first to be ordinary.

Wm Paul Young , author of The Shack , Cross Road , Eve , and Lies We Believe about God

Lizs words, full of wit and inspiration, felt as though my best girlfriend pulled me in close for a lesson in life. As if she were writing just to me and declaring, You are enough. Lizs honesty and candor about her journey of creating something bigger than herself are inspiring, practical, and life-giving.

Jamie Ivey , host of The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey podcast and author of the bestselling book If You Only Knew: My Unlikely Unavoidable Story of Becoming Free

Beginner s Pluck is a guide to living with purpose , believing we were created on purpose. Far from the exhausting message of hustle harder, Liz invites us into the winsome adventure of building a life of passion, impact, and living into who we are created to be.

Rebekah Lyons , author of You Are Free

Beginner s Pluck is the life map I wish I could have read decades ago. Liz is a shining example of the imperfect purpose we all aspire to do and be. WOW, what an authentic example to us all.

Jeff Shinabarger , founder of Plywood People

Beginner s Pluck is a breath of fresh air for dream chasers and passion people everywhere. Liz has a way of expressing and articulating that make you feel as though you are sitting across from her, enthralled by her raw and tangible insight and life experience. These words are necessary food for the soul for anyone feeling stuck, inadequate, or buried under the necessary pressure to be perfect. Brava, brava.

Arielle Estoria , poet, speaker, and author

Free-spirited, honest, humble, willing to ask the difficult questions, and insightful, Liz leads by showing her humanity. Looking for a life of purpose and passion? Beginner s Pluck gives tangible directions you can incorporate in your life right now. Liz is a disruptive storyteller whose words just might help you do the work to return home to yourself.

The transformative force that Liz Forkin Bohannon is fiercely shines on every page of this book. Beginner s Pluck is the catalytic push and heart check we need to boldly choose purpose over popularity and to live our lives not to impress but to make impactREAL, lasting impact. INTERLUDE

Gulu, Uganda > London, England > Portland, Oregon

My friend Sister Rosemary may be the Poster ChildCover GirlPatron Saint of Beginners Pluck. If my publisher would have okayed it, her face would be on the cover of this book. At a few inches shy of five feet tall, this Nike-sneaker-wearing Ugandan nun has enough pluck to last a lifetime.

Sister Rosemary directs a school called Saint Monicas, and during the height of the conflict in Northern Uganda, she sheltered children who were at risk of being kidnapped by the Lords Resistance Army. For years and years, every night she stood guard outside the gate of the school, armed against the rebel soldiers only with whispered prayers.

Saint Monicas is a place where girls come to rebuild, to heal and to belong. For girls who were not lucky enough to be protected from the rebel soldiers, it is the place where their broken and bruised bodies and spirits go to mend.
