Dedicated to my children, T. Frank, Luci, and Erica, for their enduring love and courage, and the supreme happiness I have been blessed with for their being on this earth with me.

Each has been a major part of my reason for being in a global and individual way.

PREFACE

The success of The ADD Answer overwhelmed me with letters of gratitude and hope from parents of children with ADD and adults who suffer from the concentration problems of attention deficit disorder. Gratifying as it was, there remained a large number of people who wrote and asked about other issues, like depression and anxiety, especially obsessive disorders that could have alternative solutions. Even more interesting was the huge interest from executives who wanted a step toward success on their career ladders, and from law students and medical hopefuls who had failed their qualifying tests and were desperate to pass to the next level. This book concerns these areas left unnoticed.

There are answers that will go beyond your imagination in discovering the potential within your tremendous brain power. Many of us have heard the old saying that you only use 10 percent of your brain, which is not true. What is true is that you have the capacity to make your brain 900 percent more available through the exercises and methods explained in this book. The process is called neuroplasticity, and is defined by your brains ability to mold itself around most needs you have confronting you. This process does not happen instantaneously, but it does occur with amazing speed. I have seen people with major strokes that left them without the ability to speak or walk regain these capacities and more. I have seen people curled up in helpless fetal positions and in comas who have started new lives. I have seen people with diseases that are thought to be incurable healed through these basic approaches.

But these techniques are also intended for the normal to become super-normal. Forty drug companies are putting tremendous financial investments into new brain-boosting formulations to resist the onslaught of Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases, but these drugs also carry the potential to allow all of us take the next step into our capabilities and into the super-brain generation. Some drugs are in clinical trials already, raising concerns about the idea of having steroid brains.

We already know the techniques for great mind development. Let me share a letter from a guest I saw on Dr. Phil .

Dr. Lawlis,

I just wanted to let you know that thanks to the techniques you showed Justin during the short amount of time he spent with you last year in Los Angeles, Justin got his report card this week and has As in every subject (except Musicthe boy cant sing but does well in the theory part). He is so much happier and is looking forward to his final year in middle school.

Hes actually talking already about trying to enter the Baccalaureate program at a local high school. This program, if successfully completed, gives you University credits but you must maintain an average of 85% in English, Math, Science and whatever electives you take.

He has changed so much its incredible. In large part, he uses the techniques you showed him and it is working well which has increased his self-confidence. He was the top achiever in his class this year and has been invited to assist his current teacher with a presentation at a conference for Exceptional Children in October 2005. The changes since 2004 are incredible and its a long way from when I had to talk him into going to school most every morning.

Thank you again!! It is so wonderful for us that we had the opportunity to meet you and benefit from your expertise. Pass my thanks on to Dr. Phil because in the end we never would have had this opportunity without him and his show.

Sincerely,
Lucie Thomas

As in all my books, examples from my personal experience are part of my approach. You will read that I was diagnosed as mentally retarded as an infant and certainly had some problems cognitively. Maybe I am still retarded, and maybe mental retardation is a permanent barrier to some, but maybe not. Maybe we Forrest Gumps have some special contribution that surpasses the usual academic measures of intelligence. Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, just to name a few, would agree. Who knows the extent of the human brain or the human spirit?

I wrote this book with the conscious mission to offer action steps for achieving greater intellectual capacities regardless of where you are or have been. I could talk in abstract terms, but, being an ex-coach, I prefer to put verbs in my sentences that give very real promises. And I give my promise that you can raise your IQ at least five, maybe ten or twenty, points after you read this book and find the action plan that works for you. You can succeed in anything you can imagine, but you have to invest in that plan with your heart and mind. God gave you this precious treasure of free will and the freedom to be something greater than you are. To accomplish this goal, you need to truly believe and open yourself to the challenges that await you on your path. It is often said that you only get out of something what you put into it. This book is not about cheerleading you into a better frame of mind so you will be more motivatedyou have to believe in yourself.
