WITH C HRISTINE M. A NDERSON
Emotions arent badI know this. But I also know what its like to lie awake at night full of regret and disappointment because I couldnt control my reactions. So I vow to do better tomorrow, but better proves illusive and I fail again. Tears slip and Im worn out from trying. Always trying.
Maybe you can relate. If you relate to my hurt, I pray you will also relate to my hope, found in a beautiful reality called imperfect progress. And thats the vision I am so excited to share with you in Unglued.
Just imagine what it might be like if you were able to
Face situations that are out of your control without acting out of control.
Make it to the end of the day with no regrets from either spewing or stuffing emotions.
Face almost any situation that bumps into your happy knowing you can handle yourself in a way that honors God.
Thats the hope and the promise of imperfect progressthat God uses slow steps of progress wrapped in grace to lead us into lasting changes. As good as that sounds, it could be that it sounds a little too good to you. Or maybe youre not sure you want to even talk about your raw emotions, let alone immerse yourself in a study about how to address them. You might relate to one of these concerns
My situation is too complex and difficult. A few Bible verses and inspirational sayings wont help me. No matter how big or overwhelming the situation youre facing, there is power in being equipped with truth emotional truth and Gods truth. You cant control how other people act and react, but you can control how you act and react. And thats where there is potential for transformation, even in the most difficult circumstances.
This is just how I am. When all weve really known is being angry or stuffing emotions, its easy to believe labels like these are stamped on our souls with permanent ink. But God is bigger than any label and His truth can change you. Its changed meand I really believe that if I can change, anyone can.
Even if change is possible, Im too worn out to try again. Youre not alone. Isnt that good to know? There is a hurt we share. But I invite you to take a small step of risk and join me in drinking deeply from Gods cup of hope and grace and peace. It is possibleyou really can make progress starting right where you are.
My dear friend, will you join me in taking a closer look at raw emotions and dare to believe that change is possible for you? Its okay if your progress is slow or you have to take a few steps back. Give yourself graceprogress wrapped in grace. Well never be perfect until we get to heaven, but if we desire to grow a little more day by day, then year by year we will progress. And thats a beautiful thing!

Group Size
The Unglued video curriculum is designed to be experienced in a group setting such as a Bible study, Sunday school class, or any small group gathering. To ensure everyone has enough time to participate in discussions, it is recommended that large groups break up into smaller groups of four to six people each.
Materials Needed
Each participant should have her own participants guide, which includes notes for video segments, activities, and discussion questions, as well as a reading plan and personal studies to deepen learning between sessions. Although the course can be fully experienced with just the video and participants guide, participants are also encouraged to have a copy of the Unglued book. Reading the book along with the video sessions provides even deeper insights that make the journey richer and more meaningful.
Whats Included
Unglued includes:
Six group sessions
Six days of personal study for use between each session. This includes suggested chapter readings from the Unglued book and personal Bible studies that track along with the book chapters and video teaching for group sessions.
Format Options
Unglued can be used by groups that meet for one hour or two hours. Each group session can be completed in one hour but includes optional activities and group discussions that expand the material to meet the needs of groups that meet for two hours.
Timing
The time notationsfor example (17 minutes) indicate the actual time of video segments and the suggested times for each activity or discussion. Adhering to the suggested times will enable you to complete each session in one hour. If you have additional time, you may wish to allow more time for discussion and activities.
Alternate time notations and optional activities for two-hour groups are set off with a gray background. For example:
The Crucial Question (15 MINUTES)
If your group meets for two hours, allow 25 minutes for this discussion.
In this example, one-hour groups allow 15 minutes for the discussion and two-hour groups allow 25 minutes for the discussion.
Facilitation
Each group should appoint a facilitator who is responsible for starting the video and for keeping track of time during discussions and activities. Facilitators may also read questions aloud and monitor discussions, prompting participants to respond and assuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate.
Personal Studies
Maximize the impact of the course between sessions with six days of personal study, alternating between Bible studies and reading chapters in the Unglued book. Setting aside twenty to thirty minutes a day for personal study will enable you to complete the book and Bible studies by the end of the six-week course.
