Introduction
T here is a very well kept secret for experiencing a peaceful, stress-free, intuitive and happy life. I don't care how much education you have gotten. I don't care who raised you. I don't care what languages you speak in your day-to-day life. It doesnt matter if you are a loner or a life-of-the-party hound. For all of you, what I'm going to reveal is very likely a well-kept secret.
It is all about that space between your ears that we call the human mind. This is actually where we experience all of our thoughts and our feelings. In fact, this is where we experience everything.
There is, however, a huge obstacle to experiencing life 100%. The obstacle is the noise of the mind. The noise itself comes from your never-ending thinking and all the feelings that are entangled in those thoughts you have. The noise is, in fact, your thoughts and feelings!
You might call me to task by saying that everyone has hundreds, thousands, maybe millions of thoughts whizzing around in their head all the time. And me? I would disagree wholeheartedly with that statement of yours!
The spiritual masters of any era and of all ages have practiced processes and methodologies to clear that space between their ears of all thought. Oh, yes. This is possible. Did those masters continue to function in the world? Yes! And yes, they did it through thought. Only, at their advanced state of being, they consciously solicited the thoughts and purposely invited them into their minds, rather than letting the thoughts continuously and uncontrollably invade their heads unbidden. That's why they are called Masters! They are masters of mind, masters of thought, and by extension, masters of their feelings. If you have thought about it at all (no pun intended), you realize that spiritual masters are not drama kings or drama queens. They are imperturbably calm all the time. That's because they invite their emotion in at their will; they do not let the emotion or feelings invade or control them unbidden.
Well, you are perhaps not on a path to becoming a spiritual master. I get that. But there are tricks that these masters teach their students that can help you quiet down the noise of your mind, and by so doing help you unclutter the mind of all your unwanted thoughts. At least for a moment. Or a minute or two.
Whats the advantage of having an uncluttered mind one that is without thought for a while? Ask Albert Einstein! He, and many other famous leaders, celebrities, inventors and philosophers have discovered the secret and the power of the quiet mind. Certainly, most of them would not call themselves a spiritual master. But they came far enough with the Masters lessons, through practice, to be able to quiet their mind almost at will. For a few moments or minutes. Albert Einsteins preferred time was just before falling asleep and again just before fully waking. He noticed that those were the quietest times for his own mind and body. Well show you what he did in the next chapter to develop his inventive intuition in this way.

Chapter 1: Mindfulness and the Now
W hat you will learn in this chapter:
- What stress really is
- It is possible to empty the mind, if only for a few moments
- What Mindfulness is and how to achieve it
Those of you who seek a stress-free way of life need to unclutter your mind. Why is that? Stress is all in your mind (I mean that quite literally).
Stress is simply a tangled mess of negative feelings , wrapped up in negative or repetitive thinking . In other words, if you are experiencing stress, your mind is cluttered up! Didnt we say that all our thoughts and feelings happen in our mind in that space between our ears? Yes. Unclutter the mess that is there, and stress dissolves, too.
Mindfulness
T here are two or three steps to achieving an uncluttered and quiet mind. The first one is called Mindfulness.
"To be mindful" is a fairly common verb in the English language which simply means "to pay attention". For example, we say, Mind your step or Pay attention to where you are walking.
The practice of Mindfulness, however, is not a common human practice at all!
If you are suffering from stress, you may be living in the past or in the future rather than the present time. Why is that important to realize?
Most people don't realize that when they remember, spin about or let feelings surge up about past events, they are first thinking about them, and second, they have brought the past into the present so that those past events become their present time experience. That may sound a bit confusing. Let's try an example.
Let's say that you are at work and it's mid-morning. You should be doing a lot of work on your computer. But you end up remembering and thinking about the argument you had with your spouse last night. You keep rehashing it over and over in your mind. As you rehash it through thinking about it, what is happening? The feelings you had last night surge up. You experience them again right now. The feelings you are having in reaction to what happened last night surge up right now . What a mess of feelings the feelings you had; the feelings you are having! And are you focused on the work at hand at your computer? Absolutely not! You have dragged the past into your present, so that the past is indeed your present experience. The work on your computer? Well, that's relegated to some vague future time, when you can get your focus back on the track.
What you have actually done here is create stress about a past experience. The feelings that you had during the past experience, plus the feelings you have when you reconsider that past event get all tangled up. Then, your thoughts go this way and that, as you remember what he said, what you said, what they said and the thoughts get all tangled up. What have you got here? Stress!
