Choice and Will: New Teachings from Jesus: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Choice and Will: New Teachings from Jesus" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

Choice and Will explores the complex, mysterious, and important question of who or what chooses. The question is complex because there is more than one answer. It is mysterious because our nature is mysterious and because the answer may not be what you think. The question is important because our choices shape our reality and determine our experience of it. Choice and Will invites you to look deeply into the workings of your mind and heart and discover who you are, what you really want, and where you are going. The result of that investigation is bound to be greater mastery of your choices and, consequently, of your reality. Choice and Will was dictated to Gina Lake by Jesus and is part of a trilogy by Jesus, which is available in a single volume called The Jesus Trilogy.

Note from the author: I receive the books from Jesus in the same way that Helen Schucman received A Course in Miracles which is also said to be dictated by Jesus, and which many others have received their writings, including St. Teresa of Avila, St. Hildegard of Bingen, Richard Bach, and Neale Donald Walsch. This method of receiving information is also called conscious channeling, but it is not mediumship in which the channel is unconscious and her body is used by an entity. Conscious channeling, or taking dictation, is a process of hearing words mentally and writing them down as they are heard, without any thought on my part. I can receive this communication anywhere. I dont need to be in a meditative or trance state. All that is necessary is that I dont think! When Im receiving this dictation, it is as if Jesus is sitting in a chair next to me dictating the words, except that those words are heard mentally. I can ask questions during this dictation and receive answers, but the process works best when my own mind is completely set aside. Then the flow happens smoothly and rapidly and without interruption until a particular stopping place is reached.

Contents

I, who am known to you as Jesus the Christ,am dictating this book for your freedom and enlightenment and willdictate more in the future. In this first book, we will explore themystery of choice and will. In the spiritual journey from beingimprisoned by your conditioning to being free, or fullyenlightened, choice and will play a key role.

The road to enlightenment is marked by anevolving relationship to the issue of choice and will. Whereinitially, ones free will is subsumed by conditioning and peoplestray little from their conditioning, as spiritual evolutionprogresses, people learn to use their will in a way that increasestheir peace and happiness and lessens their suffering. With furtherprogress, ones free will becomes indistinguishable from divinewill, or Thy will. At that point, it is difficult to talk aboutwill at all, because choosing is effortless and just happenswithout a sense of choosing. What is there to choose against whenthere is no longer a personal will in conflict with divinewill?

Some of you may be interested in reading thisbecause I, Jesus, have dictated it, while others may reject it forthe same reason. However, the authorship is not the point. Choosingto believe or not believe that I am behind this book is not assignificant as whether you choose to believe the words in it. Thatchoice is much more important, because that choice could betransformative.

You are here deciding whether or not tocontinue reading, so what will make that choice? What is choosingto continue even now and what will choose to continue or not in thenext moment? And what might cause you to put the book down? Ajudgment? A belief? A conclusion? A feeling? Where did that comefrom, and is that a good guide for making your choice? Can youtrust that? Do you trust that?

What is the basis for your choices? How doyou know what to choose? This is the mystery we will exploretogether. You have been given the great gift of free will. How willyou use it? The answer to that question determines your experienceof life.

I have not used Christian terminology inparticular, because I am not a Christian or a Jew or a Muslim or aHindu, nor do I belong to any other religion or sect. I representand have always represented the Consciousness within you. Ireflected the Love that you are so that you could know it withinyou. That was my purpose. I did not come to be worshipped but toshow you the way to love and worship all of life.

Some will call this message new age, butthere is nothing new about it. It is the message of everyone whohas realized Christ Consciousness within themselves, which you willdo one day as well, if you havent already. Please do not put alabel on this message, as any label only causes separation, and myintent is to unite, not separate.

My message was always one of peace, notseparation, and this is my message now. Peace on earth will notcome from seeing yourself as a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, a Hindu,or anything else, but by seeing yourself as you truly are, as I seeyou and know you, as the Father sees and knows you. When you cansee the face of God in your neighbor and love and care for yourneighbor as you would yourself, then peace will come to earth. Anybelief that interferes with that must go. It is time now to live inharmony with each other.

Some may say that these teachings are not thesame as the ones I gave long ago. But these teachings are the onesI would give today if I were alive, and they are in words that Imight use today. In the past, my voice and language was the voiceand language of those times. For now, this is the voice andlanguage I am choosing to use.

In the past, my teachings had to be couchedin parables, but today they can be plainly spoken. The world is avery different place, and the culture you live in is a verydifferent one. More importantly, consciousness has evolved and isfinally ready for these words. In the past, these teachings werefor the few who might benefit. Now many can gain from them. So Ioffer them to all who are willing to consider them. May they carryyou more speedily to the peace and love you so long for anddeserve.

You have been given the gift of free will. This gift requires one thing: consciousness. By consciousness, Imean awareness of the possibility of choice. Without thisawareness, human beings would not be very different from animals, who function and survive primarily through instinct and otherconditioning. Similarly, if you are not aware that you have achoice and if you dont exercise it, you also will function mostlyaccording to your instincts and conditioning.

Human beings, like animals, are born withsoftware, to use a metaphor, which largely determines how theyrespond to life. This software is designed to optimize survival butnot other things essential to human beings, such as love, peace, happiness, and fulfillment. In fact, this software often interfereswith achieving happiness and fulfillment.

This software is primitive, although it hassome functionality. It is useful in its proper domain, which issurvival, but ineffectual and even counterproductive outside thatdomain. For instance, if you see a forest fire, this softwaremotivates you to flee from the fire. However, when faced with thestresses of modern life, that same programming might cause you toflee your responsibilities or behave badly in your relationships.Fight or flight is a functional response only for issues related tosurvival.

Fear is useful in responding toimmediate threats to physical safety. It is not useful indealing with the ordinary demands, including survival issues, ofmodern life, when fear is counterproductive. If you rely on yoursoftware to determine your responses to nonlife-threateningcircumstances, your responses will be governed by the primitive, programmed, part of yourself, which is often called theego.

The ego is the software that gives you thesense that you are in here, inside your body, and everything elseis out there, outside of and separate from you. The ego makes youfeel alone and vulnerable to harm from others and life in general. You feel like its me against the world.

The ego also makes it seem like you are yourbody and your mind. It seems like who you are is the body and thethinker of the thoughts that go through your mind. However, this ishardly an adequate description of who you are. Your body and yourmind are yours, after all, so who is this you to which thebody and mind belong?

While something experiences the body andsomething experiences thinking, there is actually nobody who isthinking those thoughts. Thinking is happening, but it isnthappening to somebody or being done by somebody. You cannot find awho that thinking is happening to. It is just happening. Ifyou argue, Well, I am thinking, then who is this I?You cannot find it. It is just a concept of I. It is just athought about
