DEDICATION
I dedicate this devotional to David Yalley and Kofi Asante.
ALWAYS ON HIGH
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
JEREMIAH 15:16
D o you know why some people take drugs? It gives them a high feeling of joy and ecstasy. Unfortunately it wears off, destroys the body, and keeps them hooked. Some even turn to crime to sustain this habit.
The world can be a depressing place, and the pressures of work, family, school, children, health, challenges, and issues can lead you into depression.
God has a high for you. It is called the Word of God. How do you inject this high?
Jeremiah said, Thy words were found. Make it a point to consciously find the Word of God each day by reading your Bible. Otherwise negative words from the TV, office, friends, enemies, doctors, and the world will find you.
Jeremiah continued, After I found it, I ate it, which means, I obeyed it and was filled with joy. In other words, he became high!
Make sure to get high each morning and evening with the Word of God, and drive depression backwards!
FORGIVE
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
1 JOHN 2:11
F riend, has someone offended you before? Or are you bitter towards someone? One of the most dangerous sins that can take us out of fellowship with God is unforgiveness. Immediately it plunges you into spiritual darkness.
One day a brother did something to me that made me very unhappy. For some reason I decided to cool off but remained cordial. After this incident I had a vision. In the vision I had been taken away from the presence of God and locked up in a cell with hardened criminals. The jailor said to me, You are here because you did not forgive brother so-and-so. For that reason you have been removed from the presence of God. I could not believe it! I begged for forgiveness and pledged to take away every bitterness from my heart. Then and only then was I released.
Most of us take the initial stance I took when we are offended. We say, I have forgiven him, but he doesnt have to be my friend. This kind of forgiveness is mental, but in the depths of our hearts we harbour bitterness. We must go the extra mile to love those who hate us because unforgiveness can damage our fellowship with God.
If you have not spoken to your wife for days, now is the time to bring the glory back. If you have something against your parents, forgive them and entertain the Holy Spirit. Are you bitter towards your boss who seems to not like you? Forgive him and restore your relationship with God.
Decide to be close to God by being forgiving. Forgive today whoever has offended you and stay connected to God!
DONT MISTAKEN PATIENCE FOR WEAKNESS
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation.
2 PETER 3:15
T he word longsuffering is an old English word which means patience.
Sometimes when you are patient with people they may mistake it for weakness and abuse it. A husband who mistreats his wife continuously may take the wifes patience for granted and verbally, physically, or emotionally abuse her. One day that husband may return home to find that patient woman gone out of his life permanently. That is when the value of what he has lost will strike him.
God is like that. He is very patient with us in spite of all our stubbornness and wickedness. Some people mistake this for weakness. Scripture tells us, The long-suffering or patience of God is to give us an opportunity to be saved.
A day is coming when the patience of God will run out.
Now is the time for us to take advantage of the patience of God to reform, repent, and be saved before judgment falls!
DONT PUT ME IN A BOX
But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
NUMBERS 11:26
O ne of the things I personally dislike is when people try to put me in a box. Have you ever been in a situation when someone concluded you could not do something based on his subjective assessment of you?
They may say you are not good at math, or you cannot be a good preacher, or you are not a leader, or you cannot be used by God, and the list goes on. We must not allow peoples estimate of us shape who we are no matter who they are. Who you are can only be determined by God.
Moses appointed seventy elders and prayed for the Spirit of God to rest on them. Two of them still received the Spirit by themselves without Moses praying for them. They jumped out of the box and broke the rules.
Believe God to jump out of your family, spiritual, educational, and financial box. Remember, the only one who can put you in a box is Jesus!
GOOD IDEAS AND GOD IDEAS
Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
ACTS 22:18
T here are many good ideas that are not necessarily God ideas. When good ideas replace God ideas, the result is frustration because of a lack of results. The fact that something is good does not necessarily mean God approves of it.
While praying in the temple in Jerusalem, the Lord appeared to Paul in a trance and told him not to preach the Word in Jerusalem but to go far away to the Gentiles to preach because his ministry would not be received.
Preaching is generally a good thing, but in this case it was not a God idea. I wonder how many people replace God ideas with good ideas when they are choosing a marriage partner or deciding to do a particular business or even serving God in His Kingdom.
The only way to discern between good ideas and God ideas is by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Lets listen to His voice and we shall save ourselves from good intentions that do not yield any results!
HARD CORE
Exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
HEBREWS 3:13
T he term hard core means someone who is resistant to change. A hard-core criminal cannot be changed by prison, counselling, or even bullet wounds.
In the same way, a hard-core spouse will not respond to counselling, dialogue, or love. A hardcore child could be a rebellious kid who refuses to change despite undergoing hardship, threats, jail, or suffering.
It is difficult to deal with a hard-core person. There are also people with a hard-core mental stance. They may decide, for example, that they cannot and will not give up an extramarital relationship.
