Foreword
he great Swiss psychiatrist Carl G. Jung famously defined four major functions of the human psyche: thinking, feeling, sensing, and intuiting. Of these, intuition is the least emphasized and the most dis- paraged. For example, although we teach reading, writing, athletic, and arithmetic skills to our children, very little education focuses on the skills associated with intuition. This state of affairs, in my view, is a terrible shameas intuition is the very source of our deepest understanding of ourselves, as individuals, and our each, unique purpose in life. The im- portant skills featured in this book are generally never taught in school.
Of course, there are many forms of intuition. Some things come nat- urally, such as language learning in young children. Some come slowly, such as the wisdom cultivated over years of professional practice. Some lie below consciousness, such as the brains amazing ability to perform calculations and analyses that find their expression in dreams. Some confound conventional scientific analysis, such as the empirical findings of parapsychology that, after more than a century, have finally been acknowledged by the psychological community.
In August 2018, the American Psychologist , the flagship publication of the American Psychological Association, published an article, The Experimental Evidence for Parapsychological Phenomena: A Review by Etzel Cardea, sum- marizing the results of over 1,300 experiments with overwhelming statistical support for the existence of anomalous cognition.

Intuitive Development
xii Foreword
In 1993, I was invited to assume the presidency of a non-profit or- ganization known as the Intuition Network. The organization had been founded by Weston Agor, a professor of business at the University of Texas, El Paso, who had written several important books on intuition in management. Funding was provided by Lynn B. Charlson (affectionately known as Buck), the inventor of the hydraulic motor and also power steering. Professor Agor, who was stepping down, selected me as his replacement because of my background in parapsychology as well as the national media outreach I had by then achieved through the Thinking Allowed public television series.
