CONTENTS
I N THE MILITARY, it is important for soldiers to learn, remember, and to activate the general orders of the soldiers creed. As believers, we are soldiers in the army of the Lord! In the pages that follow, by using the general orders of the army as a guideline, I create general orders for you as a watchman of your home.
WATCHMAN OF THE HOUSE GENERAL ORDERS
1. I will be a gatekeeper of everything within the limits of my house and will pay attention to voice of the Lord as to how to deal with the spiritual traffic of my home.
2. I will obey the commandments of the Lord and perform the duties of my calling as a believer and a soldier of the Most High.
3. I will give any sudden terrors, unexpected attacks, and any difficult situations to the Holy Spirit, who is the ruler of my life and the one who covers and protects my home.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
PSALM 9I:I
H AS GOD CALLED you to serve in ministry? Do not take it for granted! Unfortunately, serving in any capacity is taken very lightly in the church. Spiritually speaking, it is one of the most targeted positions in the church. These targets come from different directions and perspectives. First, there are people who want to get close to the man or woman of God for whatever reason. They always make friends with the armor bearer or the pastors assistant. It amazes me to see people go from being totally unnoticed to being the most popular person in the church simply because of a position. I intentionally choose quiet people who do not have a lot of associations in the ministry to serve as my assistants. They tend to be more focused and have less to distract them.
When we serve in ministry, we are exposed to a lot of sensitive things that affect many lives. I have observed that having too many associations can be a hindrance to service to the Lord. The calling of God puts a demand on our lives to be very selective with our associations. We can never be effective when we are pulled in too many different directions. Also, hanging out with a lot of people can sometimes hinder dedication to confidentiality. When we give people too much access into our lives, it opens doors to breaches of confidentiality. I am not saying that we cannot have friends and associates. I am saying that the more traffic that we allow in our inner circles, the more it opens doors to warfare that we are not called to go through. Priorities and categories are important in relationships. First, we must prioritize our relationships. After trying other ways I have come to the conclusion that the priority order that works for me is God, ministry, family.
I used to think that I was supposed to put my family life before what I was called to do in ministry. I thought this way because everyone else thought this way. It never agreed with my spirit; I just flowed with the status quo. The result was a divorce from my first husband. Whenever you put anything in front of what God has called you to do, it will fail.
Today, my husband and children understand that we are called as a family. They have learned that when we seek the things of the kingdom first, God personally takes care of our family. He would never tell us to neglect our household. Gods agreement with me is that if I take care of His business, He will take care of my business. His business is the ministry, and my business is my family. In the order of God, nothing is left undone. As a matter of fact, I never go on a ministry trip without my house being in order. My husband, the children, the bills, and the things around the house are always in order before I step on a plane. The Lord has given me grace in this area of my life. I travel the world, but my house is in order.
After order is set, there is a flow that will bring the supernatural intervention of the Holy Ghost into my personal and business affairs.
My family understands that sacrifices have to be made for the ministry. We have the mentality and set the atmosphere in our home that promotes the fact that our lives do not belong to us. We know that we have individual callings and understand that we are called as a family. Being in charge of a congregation is a family calling. If everyone in the family does not have the revelation of the calling to be the first family in a church, there will be problems. I thank God that my husband and children love ministry. They are excited about what God is doing through our family and love to travel with me around the world. They know that as a family, WE ARE CALLED TO SERVE!
